Long Way Up?

'In an exclusive interview with MCN this week Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman revealed they are planning to do another riding documentary, if we want it to happen.

The pair who last weekend finished their latest adventure, Long Way Down, taking the acting duo from John O’Groats to Cape Town in South Africa spoke to MCN this week about their plans for the new trip.

Charley Boorman told MCN: “We are already talking about doing another one – we’re thinking about calling it Long Way Up and starting from South America, that sort of thing.

”If people are happy to watch it then we are more than happy to do another one.” '

So South America to maybe Alaska, I want to see it!!!Please :-)

Long Way Up -

They could start in Puerto Toro, Chile, and zig-zag their way through the Andes, the Atacama Desert, the Amazon rain forrest, check out Angel Falls, and go up to Colombia and then central America, checking out Mayan Ruins and beaches along the way.

Mexico and the US would be fun. They could check out the Grand Canyon or the Alamo, the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The Smokey Mountains, the Great Lakes and on into Canada. I say they go north east since they already went through Alaska.

It would be interesting but once they hit the US, all adventure would be lost.

Well whatever they do I hope it doesn't become one huge commercial/corporate circus with too many hangers-on trying to get in the frame, along with too many sponsors & charities etc.

I think Charley is more up to doing another trip because quite honestly he doesn't really have much in the way of work lined up compared to Ewan's commitments in Hollywood, so perhaps 2010 might be a little speculative.

Then there's the question of whether Eve will be wanting to join for most or all of the trip and/or perhaps Olly (Charley's wife). Is this what the crew want, is this what the fans/viewers want?

I'm looking forward to them doing another journey but equally they need to learn from their mistakes/criticisms from Long Way Down

reply

They do need to fix those problems and just make it a guys trip having fun. Still, I would love to join them in the final ride...

i hope they do long way up! i would love to see them drive through south and central america. watching LWD was like watching a travel show. you got to see what a lot of great countries looked like, and not just the touristy parts

Seriously... someone commented on Ewan having a bit of an ego, and here people are saying who they should, and shouldn't take with them, the hell with what they might want or like.

I think it's cool that they document it the way they do, they're the ones doing it, it's unscripted, just some people going a long way, seeing new things, and documenting it so those of us who will never be able to do what they're doing can see in some way, what they see.

Sure, there's other things playing into it, it's not that cut and dry- money's made, awareness raised, it's not just that.

But fact is, if they want to bring their wives along, let them, go for it. How long are they away from them on these trips? How dare they want to share what they experience with the people they love! Not for nothing, I couldn't imagine NOT wanting to share that with anyone who I've ever been in a relationship with-

But, my boyfriends have always also been my best friend, and I've realized that's not the case with many relationships. That there is a line between lover/wife and friend that people don't seem to cross... and I guess that might be why so many people can't understand wanting your wife/husband to be with you.

They definatly need to end it in Nova Scotia...New Scotland. Ewan is always talking about Scotland and it would be a fitting end to the whole series.

reply

While they're at it, they should ferry from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland & ride across... I hear it's amazing.

Although I hear now that they're ending in California... too bad. :(

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

I have a book called 501 Must-Take Journeys (2008, Great Britain). For the entry on "Che Guevara's Revolutionary Road," it says: Che famously took nine months. Recently, two actors took a year, making a film along the way."

I've read that it was planned by Ewan and Jude Law but have never heard of it actually happening. Anyone know?

reply

I'm all for it, as long as Ewan's wife doesn't come along.....

reply

This is definitely going to happen in my opinion. I've read a number of interviews now that suggest south to north america is a certainty. Only a matter of time.

reply

I have heard about 2 possibilities - From Falkland Islands to Alaksa (Long Way Up), and Long Way Down Under - From Sydney (anti-clockwise around Australia) to Melbourne, via Ayres Rock (Uluru).

"He has waited for so long. In the dark. And in the diamonds."

reply

Well obviously there are two trips. First is "By Any Means" which, like "Race to Dakar" is just Charley, but looks fascinating. Then the next "Long Way" installment, "Long Way Up" will take place in 2009, for a 2010 release. It'll probably detail a journey from Cape Horn to California, so South and Central America.

I always thought it'd be cool if they did a US trip, maybe navigating their way through every state in the USA and ending up in Hawaii! It's probably too western, too safe for them, but maybe it'd make a good mini-trip in between two of the "Long Way" adventures.

reply

I don't know about other countries, but on the National Geographic Adventure channel in Australia, which just finished showing Long Way Down, there was a series where a group of about 12 English people rode bikes from Alaska all the way down to the tip of Argentina. It was pretty good too. So technically it's already been made into a TV series.

Although I would totally like to see Charley and Ewan do this also.

reply

I think Chili to Alaska would be a good one.

Where would the long way diagonal FINISH? Starting at Australia then diagonal across Asia!

reply

There's been a lot of talk by Charley of the next possible trip. Ewan wants to do an Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Central America, Mexico, Southern US to Miami trip. Charley wants to do a trip across all of China and through Southeast Asia.

Either way you got two future specials.

reply

Where have you seen Charley talking about this? Was it in an interview and did he specify that he and Ewan were talking about another trip, or was he just talking generally ?

reply

Yes! Ewan could check out my bed in Oklahoma too. It would be a good destination for them.
