Did anyone else burst out in laughter when....

Adrienne is sitting there by herself and finds that last unsent letter from Paul in the box and then she bursts out crying?? Like i get it was a sad scene but Diane's acting in that scene made me laugh out loud, on a plane no less. Everyone else (that is female) is crying and me and my friend Spoolish are having a good laugh. What a hump of a movie.

Yeah it was funny. The movie was a mess so there was no reason not to laugh at that point. The relationship between Lane and Gere had no real basis for me. They were both going through some emotional upheaval in their lives and just happened to end up alone at beachfront house. Hmm.

They have a fling, he leaves and writes her some letters. From that you are expected to believe they have the greatest love affair since Romeo and Juliet. They could have just as easily failed completely if given the chance. The notion that all of their "issues" were resolved in that short of a period is nonsense. If the horses would have trampled her at the end that could have been good.

Now THAT made me “burst out in laughter.” ;)

I didn't laugh--I just couldn't watch, because Diane Lane was so extremely unattractive in that scene. Her face looked like a two-year old's scrunched up and bawling.

I have never seen the whole movie. I am watching some of it on Lifetime right now but I have to say that from reviews, comments etc. I didn't have a lot of hope for this movie. I love romance movies, I love Diane Lane and Richard Gere and the Outer Banks is one of my favorite places in the whole world. I also love horses. So you would think I would want to watch this movie. But from the little I have seen it is just as contrived and disappointing as I thought it would be. Seems the whole story is just so cliched it is painful and from the little I have seen this is the worst performance I have ever seen from Diane Lane but she didn't have much to work with. So I can completely understand bursting into laughter from a scene like that. Doubt I will make it that far.

No, I didn't.

But I can see how you might have felt that way if you thought the movie wasn't well done...a "hump" of a movie. It wouldn't have made sense, emotionally, if I had not bought into the story...but I did.

OTOH laughing at sadness and tragedy is a recognized disorder.

It is apparently called Pseudobulbar affect see wiki.

If it doesn't result in someone embarrassing oneself in emergency units, at funerals and when driving by car accidents, it would likely go unnoticed.

It was good acting. It looked like she was really crying.

And what's so funny about getting a letter from someone who died? It was sad to me. And it was an effective tear-jerk scene. That's what this movie was supposed to be; a love story tear-jerker.

I might have laughed if I was watching in an airplane on my way to Cancun. But if you want to sit back, relax, and watch a nice little romance....it's a good movie.
