Not appropriate for small children

Took our kids to see it today. This film is not, IMHO, appropriate for young kids. The "music" scenes (if that' what you can call hip-hop) glorify rap, and the boob-jiggling dancers are not appropriate for a kids movie.

Don't get me wrong; if thats' your thing, enjoy. I for one felt mislead about the content of the movie based on the trailer. But, they got my money and that's what counts, right?

reply

The little kids in my family can see worse things then that any day, just by walking down the street.
If it bothered you so much, you could've left.
It's rated PG for a reason.

Just wait till your kids get to highschool ;)
Talk about hell.

Discussion ended here, Movie rated PG, OP needs to learn ratings system.

I am seeing this more and more in children movies. A lot of jokes in them are related to sex, and it is to the point where the adult might laugh but the child don't know why it is funny. I agree wonderkis, if you are this protective of your kids now, it will be worse than hell when they get to highschool.

reply

I feel like this was a little more appropriate than the Shrek movies... This didn't have the adults laughing and the kids going "Why was that funny?" I'm glad they didn't really think they had to add adult humor to make it better.
I thought it was great!

"Will, I told you...If you live with a hetero long enough...You're going to catch it."

I highly doubt that that's what your small children are concentrating on during the movie. And if it is, well, you've gotten bigger problems to solve.

I saw a dancing girl in a movie once. I am now a rapist / serial killer who is serving 20 years in a mental asylum.

I think you're too conservative.

reply

It depends on the age and maturity of the children, hence the reason for the PG rating.

I took my six year old to see it and was actually happy that they showed the Chipmunks not liking that whole glamour and phony hip hop lifestyle they were forced into. There was no glorification of it as you will find in some other "kids" movies and shows.

I think that was the TRUE message trying to be past on.

You got a problem with TITTY JIGGLING?!

My 5 year old son loved it, "Lighten-UP!"...it's a kid's movie. What do you want your child to watch ...a "STRICT" kid's movie?..GIVE ME A BREAK!

My three yr old loved this movie. When kids are watching it they don't see the same things we do. We may notice the back up dancers and the skimpy clothed maids, but the kids see wat they're supposed to see. They pay attention to the furry singing critters and they're emotions to how unhappy they are with all this glitz and glamour. When the chipmunks were dancing and worn out surrounded by these girls, tired and sad, did my daughter point out the girls they're? No, she sat theyr telling me'awwww poor chipmunks'. I see no point of filtering the kids from a little adult backdrop when they are much more focused on the prime target.

What about average to slighly larger than average size children?

reply

Okay, not that I agree with the o.p., I thought the movie was fine---but they ARE entitled to their own opinion and they've gotten nothing but flak for postin'. Let's show a little common respect please.

reply

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion - check out screenit.com if you are opposed to what you saw in this movie. They give you a detailed list of what's in the movie that might be objectionable. There many more objectionable things on TV than what was in this movie.

That being said, my 7 yr old loved it and so did I. I watched the original Chipmunks cartoons as a child and owned several of their albums. It was so much fun to see my boy dancing in his seat to music that I already loved. Even if they did take "Witchdoctor" and turn it into a rap song, I thought it was awesome!

reply

No, it wasn't me who was gettin' slammed, but the original poster. But thanks though.

Amazing land of doublestandards, bubblewrap the kids ,and take them
out when they turn 21,hand them their first beer and a porn flick,
and see how they turn out!!!cant be worse then their parents!!
but if possible a bit more afraid of life.

reply

That's pretty much it. You're not an adult, or someone that counts, until you're 21 and able to drink and stuff. Hence...issues.
