It's easy to say that her mother had a narcissistic personality disorder, but when you think of it - did Precious have it too?
During the scenes when Precious starts to fantasize about being a celebrity and loved by everyone. I believe that wasn't only her way of escaping her reality, but also having grandiose thoughts about herself.
What do you guys/girls think?
No, no, no, plenty of outcast abd even ordinary kids fantasize or strive for acceptance and popularity.

Seriously? Those are the thoughts about every young girl has at some point in her life that she won't admit. And you apparently aren't aware of how narcissistic disorder works; it makes people unable to sympathize or feel empathy. Precious was nothing like that; her mom was in spades.

Look at the situation her character was in: she is an obese teenager, raped and had two children by her father, and left to deal with a mother who was not only a psychic vampire, but emotionally, physically, and sexually abusive toward her as well.
It's called escapism.

I think she was just fantasizing of a life opposite of the one she had. One where she was loved and adored.
