Terrible plan...weak outcome

Why would a group of hardcore criminals bring along someone who would pose such a risk to the entire operation?

What year was this film supposed to take place in? Cause I'm pretty sure all armored trucks nowadays have a GPS tracker inside them. In real life, their location would've been exposed immediately.
