1. A lot of people subscribe to the 'old movie = good, new movie = bad' line of thinking. Any newer rendition gets it's share of hate.
2. People got defensive and overly protective of the 1982 movie. Insecure boomers get triggered when someone one-ups the movies of their youth. They hate brigaded this movie in an attempt to 'protect' the legacy of the 1982 movie.
3. A lot of The Thing (1982) fans are sexist assholes for some reason, they all hate the fact this movie has women in it. It's really peculiar.
4. Given the celebration surrounding the practical FX in the 1982 movie, this is seen as the perfect whipping boy in the practical vs CGI debate. People like to dogpile it because it has one or two iffy moments of CGI.
