Hey could i get a bit of help with understanding something?

What happened to the childs mom? I left the room for 2secs and Julia was doing the kidnapping by herself, I thought the mom was supposed to be going too?

The mom got cold feet, but Julia still wanted the money.

I was wondering that too. The news report was that she disappeared. We never find out what happened to her but at the end, Julia tells Tom that she's taking him to her so who knows?
