Toothbrushes: Where do you keep yours?

So where does everyone keep their toothbrushes? How about the other members of the household? As I've mentioned before, I am a germaphobe. Therefore, I keep my toothbrush in a small juice glass on the counter in the bathroom covered with a piece of facial tissue - a fresh piece after every use, naturally.

My husband keeps his in the shower, where he brushes his teeth. My sister keeps hers in a toothbrush holder, uncovered, on the bathroom counter.

I keep it separate from others. I had an incident where someone used mine by accident. No holders for me. Thanks

My mom and I both have ours in a holder on the counter. There are two empty spaces between them.

I suspect it's probably better if your toothbrush can air dry. If it's enclosed/covered and stays damp, that's going to promote bacteria growth.

I did think of that too, which is why I use a tissue, as it's not completely opaque, plus I put it over the top but don't seal it completely around the brush head, so there's air flow. In my mind, it keeps germs off while allowing the brush to dry. Scientific testing would probably prove me completely wrong, but it makes me feel better lol!

Not sure how much tissue really helps there, except in your head but that's okay. 😎

The air-drying thing does seem to be important, including to the ADA where I found this on their site for recommended treatment of toothbrushes:

Thoroughly rinse toothbrushes with tap water after brushing to remove any remaining toothpaste and debris. Store the brush in an upright position if possible and allow the toothbrush to air-dry until used again. If more than one brush is stored in the same holder or area, keep the brushes separated to prevent cross-contamination.

Do not routinely cover toothbrushes or store them in closed containers. A moist environment such as a closed container is more conducive to the growth of microorganisms than the open air.

So it seems pretty clear that not even on a Sheldonish level of "Whatever I say is true because I'm so smart," those who put their toothbrush in some kind of case, and/or in the medicine cabinet or whatever without air circulation, "are doing it wrong."

Hey Gothish! We have a double sink in our bathroom. My husband keeps his toothbrush on an indented part of the counter next to his sink, and I do the same next to mine.

And don’t let anyone get you down about this thread. I would have responded to that person myself, but I’m 99% sure she deemed me as ridiculous eons ago and put me on ignore. Anyway, topics like this are fun and let us tell a little about ourselves, and in this case, also quite relevant to the episode! 

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

I'd like to think I qualify for at least 13 1/2.

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

If you don't put in a holder or secure it inside your cabinet, your toothbrush is getting littered with an assortment of things you don't want on it.

I keep mine inside a holder AND inside the cabinet.

That's why I put a piece of tissue over mine - I feel like maybe it's keeping at least some of the nastiness off.

We have a toothbrush holder. It is not covered.

Air drying is important. Anything that keeps the toothbrush damp - including putting it in any kind of case before it's already dry - is going to promote bacteria growth.

I haven't done any studies on it. But I'm in my 60's and to the best of my knowledge haven't had any toothbrush borne illnesses yet.
