The scenes with the dad were actually brutal

First off, let me start off by saying, RIP Dennis Hopper. He was such a great actor.

I thought the overall film was watchable. Nick Stahl delivered a solid acting performance. In fact, I would say the entire cast did a good job.

But the topic I want to bring up is the role Dennis Hopper had as the abusive angry farmer dad. Pretty much every scene that he was in, was filled with tension. I mean, he genuinely seemed like a scary guy. What I found surprising, is that the film actually seems like two different stories. The film starts off as a gritty drama, and then almost transitions into some kind of subtle horror film once arriving at the dad's farm. The ending scene was actually pretty crazy. The dad was like, "I'll split your head open like a pumpkin!!" That was brutal.
