OMG, such a clumsy story

Im's still under the impression of the movie...

I think that generally the maker of the movie thought that it's simply enaugh to make stilish scenes in order to make good for stupidities in the story... Such a waste, really.

Examples? The initial scene with Hoffman's wife being taken hostage. Marie Becker untieing Nicolov in the detention cell. Etc etc...

A score a day keeps the doctor away.

This film was very well executed. This is a major step above Surrogates and 6th Day. A positive aspect of the film is that it leaves you room to breathe and isn't overscored (with music and CGI), as multitudes of its Hollywood counterparts.

Overall, I also tend to agree that Chrysalis is not THAT bad. In particular when you match it against Surrogates and the like.

The movie also stands to benefit from the fact that it is a European production, so it is not overscored- as badlt333 already remarked.

However, what motivated me to start off this discussion is that the maker of this movie gambled away the chance to make Chrysalis awesome. There was potential but alas...

I understand your point medmeks, but not every film can be a masterpiece, specially those from Europe, that have a general reputation of being more risque.

reply

I'd be a lot more impressed with it if it had come out before Minority Report.

I completely agree. I just don't understand why these film makers risk millions of dollars in production design , special effects, actors and actresses and yet prop all of that on a badly written script. The movie just plodded along and it didn't have to if they just bothered to tighten the screenplay!

This!

Even more, it is much much cheaper to work on an impeccable script/story than to shell out zillions of bucks on CGI and stunts.

The same applies, btw, to other media: especially to computer games. Here, the equivallent to the script is gameplay. You don't need millions of Dollars/Euros to make a great game. As evidence I could mention a couple of (so called) indie games.

Yup, the movie lost me during the opening credits. Don't know what is wrong with these fools
