Does anyone actually like it?

I thought this movie was really a total insult to the series, butstill find myself enjoying it. I am not saying its good movie, its crap, but does anyone esle actually like the absolute terribleness of it? ANyone enjoy how campy, and poor and stupid it is?
I actually liked Brendan Fraser in this. Honestly.
Anyone?

I doubt it haha

reply

Meh. I'm pretty much hold the same opinion that you do.

It was crap.

reply

It was definitely crap, but like the OP I think it's kind of funny.

I liked the first 2 Mummy movies, they were fun.

But honestly I was very disappointed with the 3rd one. I was boring to watch, all the fun of the series seemed to be sucked out of it. And whoever replaced Rachel was just plain dull.

Aside from the recasting ( lack of chemistry ) and a director who seemed to take the material more seriously than the script did I dont see it as being all that different from the first two movies. They are all just bland, loud, fun nonsense. None of the Mummy films rise above mediocre in my opinion. The special effects in the first one were very impressive back in 1999 mind but they arent impressive when watching them today. Tomb Of the Dragon Emperor did lack the verve of the first two but that seemed to be down to the change in director than anything else. Most of the criticisms I have of Mummy 3 I also had when I saw the first film.

I agree with Roger Ebert that it was the best film in the series. But then the previous films were woeful.

I thought they had some good ideas, and I found the Chinese setting put a fresh spin on the franchise after the previous Egyptian efforts. From reading various comments, it seems some fans just can't get past the idea of a mummy movie with no Egyptian element. If you can't get over that, or the recasting of Evelyn, you're probably going to hate the movie, but in terms of craftsmanship and story-telling the film is certainly no worse.

One thing I have concluded over the years is that Stephen Sommers is a hack. The Mummy was a lighthearted romp which Sommers seems to shine in his own limited way at. The Mummy Returns was a cash grab to recapture a moment in time. It was still lighthearted but also checked all of the boxes of what a studio may want from a sequel. Those two films are fun but not standouts in my opinion.

Van Helsing was an attempt to take iconic and inherently dark Universal monsters and cut and paste them into a lighthearted romp. The result was a thin, souless but competently made movie. GI Joe was incompetantly made but a fun romp again.

The direction in Mummy 3 was probably no worse than in the previous films ( and in many instances it was more polished in my opinion ) but Rob Cohen didnt approach the material in the same lighthearted manner as it was established in the previous films.

He was just the wrong director for the job in my opinion, although I still dont understand all of the criticisms of Mummy 3 when the first two were no great shakes themselves anyway.

Im sure the people who hadn't seen the first two might have liked it. There were some brendan freser moments i liked but all in all, it wasn't enough for me to warrant the existence of the movie at all. But hey, props for being honest and admitting that you did. while im sure your in the minority ( no offense to taste or whatever) you have a right to your opinion.

I like it--actually more than the second one. The only thing missing was Rachel Weisz. It was nice that it wasn't yet another Egyptian mummy (or the same one). It was funny and action-packed.

There's something here that doesn't make sense. Let's go and poke it with a stick.-The Doctor

I enjoyed it.

This movie isn't anything like the first two chemistry wise between the characters, but the storyline is decent and I like the special effects.

Love is a losing game. One I wished I never played.

I pride myself on finishing almost every single movie I start to watch. I couldn't finish this one.

Same here. ._. I'd have loved to see the "Rise of the Aztec" movie.

No even the presence of Michelle Yeoh could persuade me to watch it to the end.

Rachel Weisz never made a better decision than to refuse to appear in this piece of crap - if only Brendan's contract had allowed him to do the same.

How the hell it even managed 5-stars is quite beyond me.

I liked it for what it was, a movie *for kids*. Very cheesy, but still entertaining. And Anthony Wong's in it, the star of Untold Story and Ebola Syndrome.
