Who else was disapointed at the ending???

who else was disapointed to se that Atsuko (paprika) did not end up with
the Detective at the end of the movie?

Go watch some pop BS movie-- i am surprised you, and anyone who mocks the fatty character, made it to the end of the film.

weak.

reply

yeah, i hated the thought of her ending up with him. i sort of figured it had to do with all those weird fetishes japan exports these days.

reply

Yeah it was ridiculous. Why would a smart pretty girl like that fall for a fat disgusting slob? They just did it to satisfy the main audience, you know the big fat anime otaku freaks.

LOL

I thought the ending was fine. Atsuko ending up with Tokita was good because he's a sweetheart underneath regardless of how he looks. Atsuko was in denial of her love for him. Atsuko and the Detective don't have anything in common.

yep, so disappointed
i know it's reasonable enuf for Atsuko to end up with Tokita
but it's not acceptable for me..i'm kinda normal people who want to see hot chick end up with cool guy

I didn't want her to end up with the detective as that would've been predictable but her and the DC Mini inventor did feel laboured.

The climatic city scene with the Adam and Eve reference (I think ) was over too briefly.

George Lucas talking about: 'Hey, give it to me, I'll fix it. I'll make 20 more of them'

I think people aren't mad that they are in love, they are more mad at the fact that right after the events of the movie they got married immediately. Some people may find that hard to believe.

reply

No, they are mad because the fatman gets the girl instead of the 'cool' detective. In their narrow minds its not possible that a cute girl falls in love with a porkchop.

reply

Exactly, the comments here are disgusting (as in most IMDB discussions). The guy was innocent, smart, loveable, if you put his personality in a handsome, skinnier man's body people wouldn't complain I guarantee. Anyways, very cute ending, it was delightful and really gives you hope.

Besides the Dectective was in love with Paprika and not the Dr Chiba anyways.

So he has to go into the Dream/internet to be with Paprika ala Cobb in Inception.

Dr Chiba called the fatdude a child, so she is more the motherly type

reply

I felt bad for the detective, because he basically fell in love with something not quite real. I think given time, he and Atsuko could have built a connection, but alas, that tacked on ending happened.

reply

Ye, the ending was disappointing. It's not so much that he was fat and ugly that I'm having trouble accepting. It's the fact that he was basically a child (albeit a brilliant one). I know he was an adult but his mind was that of a child. How could anyone fall in love with that? It's a little creepy.

His mind wasn't really that of a child, just because the guy likes certain things etc. and doesn't act like a cold robot doesn't mean he has a mind of a child.

I was not disappointed, after all Paprika delved into the repressed emotions of its characters. Therefore Chiba reveals her true emotions for Tokita is a continuation of this theme. Plus I'm sure Paprika left a surprise for Konakawa in Dreaming Kids.

I was happy that there was a Satoshi Kon film festival going on.
