the last scene (spoilers)

i loved this movie, so let's get that out of the way.
i don't have a strong grasp on the last scene, though. does anyone else? is the young boy supposed to be amedeo (franscesca and manrico's son) or accio himself as a boy? i initially guessed it was amedeo, but in this scene, accio was wearing the same turtleneck he was wearing when he broke in to the housing party HQ. it didn't seem likely that suddenly we'd jumped 10 years into the future.
however, i also couldn't tell if it was the same actor who played young accio who appears in the last scene. any thoughts?
fantastic movie, somewhat unsatisfying ending.

The "housing party"? LOL!
Anyway, I think it's pretty straightforward and beyond any doubt whatsoever that the young boy in the last scene is Accio himself as a boy. I actually think it's a very powerful and emotional scene, him looking back at his life and at what he has become. His past and his present life smiling at each other.

I love this blog site because I knew there would be someone else to discuss the last scene of this most amazing film. As a kid Accio was always disappointing his family. The last "political action" he executed allowed his family and extended community to reach a goal they had been waiting for. I see him looking back at his younger self and (both) smiling as powerful a scene as the last shot in 400 Blows.

It did remind me of the 400 blows. However I found the last shot really unnecessary and patronising to the audience.

The boy in the end is Amedeo (end-titles say something like "Amedeo 5 years old" or so...).... Accio sees his brother in his nephew...

I think it's definitely young accio he sees, since it was the same actor. Also it makes sense - he seems to finally had found peace in his life, and smiles back at himself, finally happy.

I loved the movie, think it could have ended differently, though. I mean, it could end this way, but the plot should have had more time to unravell. But I did love it, great actors, powerful plot, passionate.
