so confusing

So, I have a few questions...

1) How do we know that Paige died? Yeah, she was stabbed a lot and left for dead, but Mari was shot and lost a lot of blood. I think it would've been more reasonable for Paige to have survived.

2) What was the point of the dead brother being mentioned at all?

3) Why did Mari do something as stupid and useless as using the cigarette lighter to burn such a strange and nonvital area on Sadie?

It was a day like any other except it was 14 hours long and everybody was wearing pastels

1. The location of Paige's stab wounds and the way she was lying lifeless afterwards convinced me that she was dead.
2. From what I remember, Mari's necklace (which became a plot device) was related to the dead brother in some way. And of course it made the parents even more angry and bloodthirsty that these people tried to kill their only surviving child.
3. Have you ever been kidnapped? I'm sure it's not so easy to come up with a perfect escape plan but at least she tried to fight back.

1) We see her die. Watch again. They show her while Mari is being raped and it is quite clear she heaves her last breath.
2) Probably, mostly, because he was the reason for the pendant/necklace.
3. Don't know, she could have so easily put it on her eyeball!!

"I offered him a lateral move to Austin." "That's like a duck making a lateral move to a l'Orange!"

1 you're right they could have survivied, would have made a better plot.
2 huh?
3 she wanted to scar her for life, so she would never find a bf again.

There we were, minding our own business, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.

I assume Paige bled to death. But you have a good point. She could've survived the stabbing. Wouldn't have mattered though, because clearly, her survival wasn't part of the script.

I guess the point of the dead brother being mentioned was a reminder for Mari to fight to survive and stay alive, for the sake of being the last remaining child.

To be fair, Mari was in a crazy situation. So I guess aiming for a more suitable place to burn her is easier said than done. Mari was just a regular girl...not an action star or Iko Uwais from The Raid. Lol
