Do people not get it?

I don't know how people can't like this movie, I mean, it's a parody, you guys do understand that right? It's not meant to be 'good' just stylish with some cool visuals, hot women, funny one-liners and slapstick comedy. The only way I can see so many people not liking this is if they somehow thought 'frank miller! must be deep, shutting down amusement centers!' it's not particularly high energy, is it that you need a lot of loud people to make you laugh? dead-pan ..look it up...anyhoo did anyone else think the octopus's costume in his first scene looked suspiciously like alucard from the anime hellsing? what with the hat and the coat and the guns...no? I think there's something to it.

just fyi - and im sure others have pointed this out already - but calling something a parody is NOT an automatic license to make *beep* nor is it a shield to hide a crappy film behind.

we get it. we know we are not supposed to take this seriously. but that doesnt stop it from being a failure of a film. we understand what it did, and why it did what it did... its just that what it DID, was utterly poor.

I "got it" and I still didn't like it, it was literally a waste of time, in both them making it and me watching it. Sin City was a good movie because it had a decent director behind it, this robs what Sin City did visually and with boring and pretentious narration but is nowhere near as entertaining. The dialogue is cringeworthy and embarrassing.

Everything about it was just irritating, Samuel L Jackson's overacting (and not in a good way), the uncertain time period its set in, irrelevant scenes that have no real connection other than to mess around with visual effects, it was like a massive prank on the audience.

"Tropic thunder" was a parody, this? This is *beep* This film is so garbage, no hobo would pick it up if it was lying on the street.
I just hoped for someone to drive through the wall my monitor is against and kill me.

SPOILER, i thought he had some darth vader pieces in that suit, maybe darth is also a part of the costume you reference. I really got it once octopus had the nazi suit on-e. I just saw this movie and i really liked it, it is solid, not sure if i love it yet.

It seems I do 'get it'. As the OP says, it's not meant to be good. I get it. It's the opposite of good *beep*

I just thought the movie was a bit too absurd. It could have been quite ok, but two things kill it: the guy who played Spirit (never heard of him before and after) was weak. It did not help that in the voice over that dork was bragging about how cool he is all the time, also.
And Octopus was just ridiculous. Every time he entered the screen the movie went far into camp territory. The over-acting did not help, too.

I love this movie, I've watched it several times, it is hilarious and I agree that people just did not get it or somehow couldn't get into the groove with this style of humour.
