You met me at a very strange time in my life-The Narrator
I actually didn't find this one awkward, because my dad likes these kinds of movies, but 40 Year Old Virgin on the other hand, most awkward thing ever, and I ended up not liking it, to add on to it.
as long as it's not in an office. some fetishes should be kept to yourself.
I think a lot of you probably aren't giving your parents much credit. I don't know how old they are, but I'm almost 38, and a parent, and I've seen and liked most of these movies being discussed. When I lived in Florida, after we lost power in one of the hurricanes, I got together with my next door neighbors and we watched some movies (had the important things like tv, dvd & fridge hooked up to the generator). My neighbors were in their late 50s, early 60's and we watched "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" together. Their 20 year old son was there too and he said something like "I can't believe I'm watching this with my parents". His mom was like "are you kidding me? We saw this in the theater when it came out. We love it".
Try growing up with parents like mine. My mom is 78, my dad would be 83. I rented "Revenge of the Nerds" when I was a teen and my sister watched it in front of my mom..she literally flipped out. I remember coming home and my mom was all upset. My dad took me to the side and talked to me about it. I lied to him and told him I had never seen it yet, so I had no idea what it was about. He just asked me not to let my mom see something like that again. Hell, when I was in my early 20's and going to college, if a movie came on saying "Rated R", my mom would say "you shouldn't be watching this".
Every movie mentioned so far, I have watched with my Parents. With the exception of Hard Candy, I haven't see that at all. As another poster said, my Dad cracks dirty jokes all the time. But, they're actually funny, so it's not awkward or anything. =]. I wasn't raised as seeing Nakedness, or Sex as a taboo. Both are natural, so there's never any awkwardness surrounding those moments in a movie.
Kicking The Dog presents sex and the language so realistically, it's awkward around parents - like they're learning about the reality of it all. And 40 Virgin because it goes over the top with the sex and donkey show. BOth are hilarious.
