Probably won't get a sequel?

According to this video, Mark Kermode said that in his interview with Duncan Jones in Cornwall about Moon, he said that he was sad that we won't see another Warcraft movie due to the hardships it had:

Wonderful.

That's a disappointment if true, but I hope Blizzard won't give up on dramatizing this story in some form (apart from the games, of course). Now that they have their own studio, maybe they will consider an animated TV or web series, or something along those lines.

reply

A TV series in the vein of GOT might be a good idea.

reply

I was thinking more like The Clone Wars, i.e. all animated. But if they can keep the live action/CGI mix, that would be good too.

reply

Animated might be a bit too 'for kids'.

reply

Maybe. The Clone Wars was enjoyed by all ages, though, so I think it could work. Ultimately, it will probably depend on budget.

Well, that's that, I guess. That sucks.

reply

I don't really know what was really said. Duncan Jones said to someone on Twitter more recently than when he did that interview with Mark Kermode in cornwall that he's still hoping to hear whether there will be a go ahead. I think he just hasn't heard anything about it, but I don't have much hope.

How long did it take for Pacific Rim to get a sequel?

reply

It took a few years but Pacific Rim was also initially not going to get a sequel until Thomas Tull green lighted it, who has now resigned. The problem is that Pacific Rim at least earned over $100 million in America at the Box Office, Warcraft hasn't. If they make another Warcraft movie, it will most likely be aimed specifically at the Chinese market, where it made the most money.

I'm also afraid that people might lose interest in Warcraft if it takes too long because I'm not sure if the movie attracted enough of a non-gamer audience to keep it going. The popularity of the game itself has been declining but with a recent upsurge with the release of Legion, so the gamer audience could decline..

reply

How well did Pacific Rim do in China, though? That might be a bigger factor for a Chinese-owned company.

reply

We'll have to wait and see if China manages to allow them to make a sequel. The problem with that though is that I'm so sure that Universal Studios would want to distribute the film again. They are not happy about how it did in North America. They may only consider it if they eventually make a profit of DVD/Blu-Ray sales.

reply

I really liked Pacific Rim when I saw it in theatres and have watched it 4x since then I think but this sequel based on the trailer does not induce me to watch it. It seems very different from what I liked about the first film.
