Uttter garbage

Offensive, crude and just plain bad. How on earth did this drivel get more than 3 or 4 out of ten? A waste of some talented actors and I exclude that awful Brit.
I myself am British but his crudity is shameful.

I agree, which is why I gave it a scathing review.

It's funny though, it's most;y only American teens and 20-somethings find this film funny. I don't see any ... oh, hell, I don't know, go read reviews on Amazon from other countries, and get a feel for how good or bad they found this film. Immature films aren't well received overseas, largely because the audiences are mature adults, not kids with money from mom and dad.

reply

Errr, actually it's quite the opposite it seems. Most adults really enjoy this movie. For most teens it's not gross enough or too slow moving. Most people in my age group (thirties) think this is one of the best comedies of the 2000s

reply

Speak for yourself, stazzercise. I watched this with a couple of 30-year-olds, & after about 40 minutes one friend turned to us and asked: "Does anyone else want to just turn this OFF"? And we all said yes.

If this is a comedy, then it's one of the poorest excuses for one I've ever seen. In addition to being unfunny, it's slow, boring, and vapid.

Forgetting this movie is easy.

reply

Exactly!

stazzercise, I don't know what you were reading on Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.fr or any of the other foreign sites, but Sara Marshall is not a "blockbuster hit" with mainstream foreign markets. Oh sure, people went and saw it, and in this way spent money to see the thing, but that doesn't translate to "well recieved".

"Sarah Marshall" is just one of many American films made for the pre-teen to 20-something market that's been so dumbed down that mainstream actors are now forced to act in these parts that, were it not for the language and sexual references, were clearly made for Saturday morning kids, and specifically boys.

But, that's where the market focus is these days, and that's what the market data says the money is, so there's no changing it now. But I'll tell you something right now, films, even with televisionm, cable and home video via VHS and Beta back in the day, used to have more staying power, were more refined, more watchable, and more replay value, than this brainless crap that gets put on the screen.

reply

Yes yes, older stuff is better, we get it. Food used to taste better, cars used to run better, snow used to be whiter, people used to be taller, etc. Blah blah blah. Think it's time for Gramps to go the way of old yeller. Joking aside, here's some adult critics who liked it:

Rolling Stone
EW
SF chronicle
USA today

So for someone who got offended over someone else speaking for a whole group of people, you sure spoke for a lot of folks...

"dude i dont care i just love this movie you guys have a realy taste in movies what wrong with you"

reply

Um, first of all, it was a "blockbuster hit." The movie did much better than anticipated, even spawning a semi-sequel. Sure, not everyone likes any movie...but where you guys get that the movie is not well-liked by adults is waaay off. The movie is aimed at 20 and 30-somethings, not at teens. In fact, it's easy to point out on any source--84% of critics gave it positive reviews...and those are adults. On most movie rating sites for adults, the film was given mostly stars out of five, followed by 3/5.

I'm not saying you can't dislike a film. I am just saying, you can't ignore facts when it comes to majority and minority. There are movies I don't like but I will admit when I am in the minority. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was a hit, and by most adults is a much-liked film.

Agree with STAZZER. This movie is definitely geared at people in their twenties and thirties. Teens were not big on seeing it because it's too slow for them. And generally Stazzer is right that it got favorable reviews from people in our age range

reply

Totally agree with you. Making over 100K on a 30K budget to me is successful. Plus for those that commented that only teens like this, they can see the demographics behind the IMDB ratings:

18-29 (91K) rated 7.3
30-44 (86K) rated 7.2
45+ (12K) rated 6.8

Now I know this only represents IMDB reviewers, but there were clearly a number of 30+ that enjoyed the film (including me). Not everything has to be Schindler's List for me ... sometimes I enjoy silly movies that are light.

Agreed 100%...

Of course it was made for a younger audience, older people have seen 10 with Bo Derek and Dudley Moore and instantly realized large swathes of this movie were stolen from 10. Although other parts were quite different I find it hard to believe 10 wasn't part of the formula used to create this screenplay and the project may have started out as a remake that got morphed into a gross out Knocked Up genre comedy.

reply

A big hit, but not a 'big' movie. No villains, no violence, no... oh, wait - yeah, it had nudity. Thanks, Jason! I really liked the movie, and I'm 60. It was a slow-moving love story. It was a cerebral comedy. Jason Segal, as leading man??? And it all worked! And Brand was masterful in it. It was his 'jack sparrow'. He conceived the character, and made it so memorable!

reply

I loved it. I'm 55, going through a divorce, and this is the first breakup movie I really enjoyed. I like Russell Brand, the leading man and...sorry can't remember the name of the fat guy, but they were all fun to watch in this implausible comic romp.

reply

Pro tip: Don't go see lighthearted comedies. They're not for you...

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

I have to disagree. I respect the fact that you didn't like it but this was one of those movies that I didn't expect to like so much. It's not laugh-out-loud funny but I think it has a good story going for it as well as a great cast. I could have done without Russell Brand and Jonah Hill but they didn't ruin the movie for me.

You guys are like the loser hipsters at the party, sitting in a corner smoking menthols and drinking chamomile tea.

reply

Totally agree. I gave it 4/10 and I was being generous since it has Mila.
Comedy movie my a$$.
I laughed maybe once in the entire movie (the sopranos joke) and that's it.
I had to fast forward the last 20 min or so since I just couldn't bear it anymore.
If it didn't have Mila, I might have ditched it midway.
The script was boring, acting unremarkable and dialogs utterly forgettable. Paul Rudd was completely wasted. Russell Brand made the part his own though.
