Are you obligated to stop somone?

If someone chooses to kill themselves, is it your duty as a fellow human being to stop them, or is it their right as a human being to control their own fate? I was really curious about the woman they stopped and escorted off the bridge, and I wonder where she is now. Was it fair for them to make the decision for her? If someone wants to kill themselves, they will do it anyway. If it's not fair to tell people how to live, it's not fair to tell them how to die.

If you're a psychopath I guess the sole purpose of the question is redundant. And please don't start with Kevorkian shiet, its another thing

I know this post is old, but I wanted to add my two cents' worth.

If people around me, whether I know them or not, express the desire to off themselves, I write them off as a loss and cut ties with them. I don't think anyone is obligated to help them. I think offing oneself is a terrible thing to put others through. Someone has to watch it happen or be the one to find them. It's wrong to do that to anyone.

I know I'll get blasted for feeling this way. I'll be told I don't get their struggle. If not here, then anywhere else I express this. I don't care. I'm right to feel that it's wrong, whether others agree or not.

Have you ever heard of a Witness Survivor? It means more than one thing, but for the sake of this post, it concerns people who see it happen or arrive afterward. It's a horrible thing to do to someone. Anyone selfish enough to traumatize others this way deserves success in their endeavor and doesn't deserve sympathy for having done it.

I understand their struggle because I fixated on it after I saw my father kill himself with a .357 magnum revolver with hollow points. I hate him for what my son and I both saw that day. It absolutely isn't right to hurt others just because you want to hurt yourself.

I think it's okay to let them jump. Leave and let them do it. They don't care about you. Don't concern yourself with them.
