Am I the only...

Teenage girl who saw and enjoyed this movie? Judging from other people's posts, the target audience seemed to be middle aged men, however I absolutely loved this movie. I guess a big part of it was because I desperately wanted to be Shirley... that is at least until things began spinning out of control. I also felt I could relate to her...I'm one of the "nerdy" girls, I'm slightly obsessive compulsive, and I feel absolutely no attraction to boys my own age, but rather middle-age ones. (I was also a junior like her when I first saw this movie, but am now a senior.)

I was just wondering if there were any other teenaged girls out there who lusted after John Leguizamo's character as well, or if I'm just a COMPLETE freak?

I absolutely loved this film. It was so well-done and the ending was, well, shocking. I would've loved to have seen how things were between Shirley and her dad after that.

reply

No.
I haven't watched the movie properly but will be buying it as soon as possible. Anyway, i'm 16 years old and i don't find younger guys attractive at all. Everytime i look at them all i think is about how immature they are. Older guys are exactly what i want and think about in that sort of way.

Also i've had a thing for John Leguizamo ever since i saw him take his jacket off in Romeo and Juliet. Oooooft. So you're not the only one. :)

well in that case..I need a babysitter....

I'll gladly babysit for you any day of the week kickstand ;)

Also, Emily...I feel the exact same way! I have never thought about any guy my own age in "that sort of way," if you catch my drift...It's just so awkward sometimes though. While all my friends are gushing about Robert Pattinson, I can't get my mind off my chemistry teacher. I feel really wrong about it sometimes, and whenever I bring the topic up with my friends, they're always like: "ew, he's old." So yea, it's nice to know I'm not the only one like that out there :).

Ya dont worry I've only been attracted to a guy my age once, which I believe was a fluke. And after the age of 18 i usually dated guys that were about 5 yrs older than me. And i absolutely love John Leguizamo(sp?)

You are not a freak.
I am 19, and I just finished the movie. I thought it was very good. I don't want to say I support her little prostitution ring, but I also don't find it to be completely appalling. I wanted Shirley and whats-his-name (I think Michael) to get together, although I know how far-fetched that would have been.

Oh, and John Leguizamo is extremely sexy.

reply

I COMPLETELY agree with you!

And I totally relate to Shirly... I can really understand the relationship with Michael, though I'm not sure I'd go so far as to "babysit" for some of the less appealing middle-aged guys just for cash - but the girls didn't really seem too discerning in this film. Well, actually, maaaaaybe I would, I don't know. I think for these characters, too, it was partically the money and partically the illicit thrill.

I'm 19 and I get it -- and John Leguizamo is really hot and you are totally not a freak! I get crushes on older guys all the time, not even a few years older - like someone in their twenties - but men in their 30s, 40s, or even 50s! If their sexy, they're sexy! Regardless of age.....

reply

I find this comment extremely troubling. I get being attracted to older men...but there is no need to have sex with them for money.
Jeeeez.

All that I was thinking actually...was when I eventually have kids Im going to have to worry about this stuff lol

I've seen this movie a few times now, and I feel exactly the same way that you do. I've only had one boyfriend my age (junior in high school), and it lasted about 2 weeks because he was so clingy it was making me insane. so you are definitely not a freak.

There is a difference between lusting after attractive older men and allowing random strange men *beep* you whenever they want. You and a lot of the other girls winking and flirting with the men on this board have a lot of growing up to do. Just because you find certain older men attractive does not mean you should go around telling everyone that you can relate to wanting to get used by men. Are you telling me that you would want bald guy who raped that girl in the bathroom to do the same to you?

Shirley is a made up character who was put in a fortunate position. Of course her character is relatable. She was in charge of the situation in which she placed herself until the last 15 minutes of the movie. Sexy John Leguizamo fell for her and only her, and she rejected him. They did not show her saying "no" to a man and then getting raped nonetheless. She was able to escape the business unscathed and move on, which is not realistic.

I find John Lequizamo incredibly sexy as well as several other middle-aged men sexy; that doesn't make me (or you and anyone else who thinks this) a freak. A freak is someone who would want ANY strange middle-aged man to do whatever HE wanted her to do whenever HE wanted to. Please learn the difference.

oewnaynailf, You make it sound like no woman/girl ever has sex when the guy wants to, only when she does.

I know alot of women who would let a man do whatever he wanted and that would be a major part of the turn on.

Additionally one night stands happen all the time. In a survey of more than 3,300 individuals, most of whom were between the ages of 17 and 40. Of the heterosexual respondents, more than half reported a one-night stand, about evenly split between men and women.

You can google more info up on stuff like this, but basically it's saying of the thousand or so hetro women polled, over half have had a one night stand, and of those 54 percent reported positive feelings.

Taken from the article---> "It's not that they wanted the man to whisk them off and marry them," Campbell told LiveScience. "It's that they wanted the man to understand that they weren't like this normally. That they were doing this for him on this night as a particular event."

So it's almost like...they did it for the Guy, a guy they didn't even know!?!

Just because it's not something you would do, does not mean it's something someone else wouldn't.

Mr Fizzlepop, statistics and numbers can be manipulated to mean anything. A sample of 3,000 individuals isn't even a good study, and where was it done? here in la?

I've had one night stands, it didn't mean that I didn't like the other person or did it just for him.

reply

These aren't women in the movie, they are girls, for starters.

I don't understand your first sentence. Both parties should be consenting. Always!

God. THANK YOU! Finally a voice of reason!
I honestly don't think the girls commenting here know what prostitution is actually like.
It's been a few years since everyone has commented so I hope that they have gone off to college and gotten the career of their dreams...rather than having sex w. strangers for "profit", getting hooked on drugs and beat up by their pimp. Hookers are murdered all the time.
Seriously.
