I'm pretty sure the OP was just trying to get some attention, but I'm pretty surprised no one so far has mentioned "Boy'z in the hood" within their suggestions. For me it is one of the most solid "black movies" (whatever) out there.

As a white guy that couldn't stand this movie, I think I understand where the OP is coming from. For me, when I think "Oh, it's a 'black' movie," I'm pretty much thinking of crap like this one. The church, the hood, a "cheating" husband, and some random white guy that is said to have grown up with the main characters but clearly didn't. And for some reason, this particular type of movie I tend to label as "black" remind you about every ten minutes that you're watching black people on-screen.
I won't act like I've seen most of the movies mentioned above, but some I have seen, like Set It Off and Menace II Society (I know, I know, of course I've seen those), don't make me think "black movie." Set It Off is just a good bank robber movie, where the main characters just happen to be black.
The only reason all the bad movies with primarily white actors aren't called "white" movies is because there are just too many of them.

the problem is not that all black movies suck....black movies are right in line with mainstream movies. A mix of great, terrible, and mediocore films. Its just since there are so few black directors that get funding for major films, the bad films standout. Its not helping that the films selling, are the ones black church going women (the demographic for tyler perry fims) flock to and drag their man and or girlfriends. Those films are redundant in theme and cinematography, but def appealing to the large demographic its intended for. They keep selling, so they will keep getting made. Spike Lee has struggled for years to get funding for his films, he dropped the ball with his last film, which will make it even more difficult in the future for him to get funding. Its a tough climate right now...
@@ It never fails. On EVERY black movie and I do mean every black movie there will be at least one white (or other, sometimes even black) person to say "all black films suck"! First of all, it's not true and secondly who are you trying to convince us or yourself? If it sucks so much why are you over HERE on a "black film" thread talking about it? I've seen plenty of crappy white films and I do mean plenty but you don't see me on those threads going all "white films" suck. Christ, get a life.
