Very unlikely that Ron was infected having sex with HIV positive woman..

...because HIV/AIDS is typically not passed that way. Sorry, I know it's not politically correct, but its a medical fact.

Unless there is a transfer of body fluids, typically blood, there are few cases of men contracting AIDS from AIDS infected women, including having unrotected sex with AIDS infected hookers.

The chances of a woman contracting AIDS from an AIDS infected man via vaginal sex is higher, but still not that high.

The way AIDS typically is passed is with anal sex, where semen is poassed from a man to a partner anally (whether that partner is male or female).

Of course another common way the virus is passed is by sharing dirty needles, where one user has AIDS and passes it to another user that way.

We were warned in the 1990s of an impeding AIDS epidemic among the general population via straight, unprotected male+female vaginal sex. That was a lie in order to create panic and increase funding for AIDS research. The epidemic never happened, because that is not how AIDS is passed.

I have been reading more and more articles by people who know Ron who suggest he was gay or at least bisexual and that is probably how he got it -- having anal sex with another AIDS infected male, not from having unprotected sex with an AIDS infected female.

He paused for a minute during the information about drug users. Then paused once again when he passed the unprotected sex part.

It was heavily implied he caught it from the heroin addict he had sex with..

People can be so ignorant. While I agree that it is difficult to transmit during heterosexual contact, and even harder for a woman to transmit to a man, the woman that he remembered in his flashback had a track marks all over her, implying she was an addict.

There are many reason why a man could be susceptible to getting the virus from an infected female. He was definitely promiscuous, and if he had any other infections such as herpes or syphilis, these create blisters and sores and ways in which the virus can enter the body. Also, because of this reason, if SHE had any other STDs (and people with HIV often do), the virus piggybacks on the other easily transmitted virus and transmission is much more likely. How about other things? Like the fact that he was a heavy drinker and drug user, which affects your immune system and its ability to ward off infections. Maybe he wasn't circumcised which could have also played a role in overall hygiene and risk of infection.

While I agree it is more difficult to transmit during regular heterosexual sex (and I hated living through that time in the 90s when everyone was so terrified of it they thought you could get it from shaking hands and so everyone was too afraid to relax and have normal sex), it really comes down to choosing your partners more carefully. If you're going to stick it in a prostitute with track marks and open sores all over her, you're taking a huge risk.

The real Ron Woodroof was at the least a bisexual man. I don't necessarily agree with labels, but in this particular incident whenever we're (after the fact) trying to pinpoint all the possible sources and routes of his infection risks, it's important to stay accurate to who and what the real man actually was.

I find it disturbing and extremely disappointing that, due to the shallowness and lack of research on the part of these filmmakers, this discussion has been allowed to rage on.

Maybe it was anal sex that he had with the infected prostitute, and it created a tear in the lining of her rectum, which is pretty common I imagine.

Very true, and I made a thread saying just that. Woodruff was a bisexual, and had homosexual contact, which is why he contracted AIDS. The film (otherwise not a bad one) was dishonest about this, stating that he got it from a woman. Just dishonesty, and goes against the narrative of militant homosexual/pedophilia groups like LGBT

Homosexuals run Hollywood and would never allow this fact to be seen in the film, while portraying the main character as "homophobic". Now, it is true that many homosexuals, especially male homosexuals have a lot of shame towards their activities. This is what happened with the guy who shot up that homosexual bar in Orlando (the Pulse shooting). That shooting had nothing to do with ISIS or international terrorism, no matter what the media and others want you to think.

But on the other hand, Woodruff might have been proud to be a sodomizer. Many homosexuals are. So proud that they have to do parades, mostly half naked. Homosexuals enter into completely vile, disgusting, unnatural conduct. This is what causes AIDS. Now, AIDS is barely mentioned anywhere in the media. If it did, people would be aware that it is caused by male homosexuals sticking their penis up another man's year end, and the man bringing the virus home to his wife and unborn children. Homosexuals are filthy animals.
