what the hell is with the ending?

Why where they showing how they did audience disappearing act? It's just so wrong and stupid. Doesn't fit with characters too. It was supposed to be a usual bittersweet ending but ended with Breaking Bad vibe.

I honestly thought the movie was not as bad as most people said it was, but, I agree that the ending was REALLY stupid. In the movie. they hated Jim Carey's character because he's not doing "actual magic". Then, their big grand magic trick is just drugging the audience. It went against almost everything that came before it.

reply

I think they just meant that Carey's self-mutilation wasn't a demonstration of what's considered traditional magic.

I loved the ending. When they originally showed the audience in the theater and then outdoors in a different location, I was imagining how Burt and the others got them there. Since realistically moving the entire audience from one location to another would and should be messy, showing that this actually was the case was hilarious for me.

That said, if this had been a David Copperfield trick, he would've created the illusion of the audience being outdoors and of course would've been a lot less messy.

I know what they were going for but I hated the ending. the movie itself was a B-, the ending was a D

reply

I have to admit, the ending affected my eventual rating (here on IMDB) as well! I love Carrell, Carrey, Buscemi & Arkin, but the movie itself was "average", with very few laughs, and the ending just sank it lower then average.

4/10

I was to rate the movie 5 but the ending was just so funny I changed it to a 7.

that last act for me was too tiring dragging bodies back and fort on a certain act, not to mention the time spent in doing that act one way or the other there will be one on the audience who will be able to notice the time they spend watching that act

reply

i thought it was hilarious how they thought of everything by tagging everyone then just dragging everyone around like ragdolls :)) such a daunting task imo for an hour being knocked out for the audience lol.

reply

I guess to show it was a comedy

I think it's the funniest thing in the movie and kind of fits with the grand ridiculousness that is stage magic. We all know modern stage magic is just overblown carnival hooey, but we like it anyway.

Well they are entertainers

thats why they either hire the audience or have the audience on a turn table stage so when they reveal the trick everybody thinks the statue of liberty is disappeared

I thought the ending was just sick and twisted and crazy, with them actually dragging people down the stairs and outside---just shows how crazy as hell they all were. I did wonder how the hell they managed pulled off that last trick, though.

reply

well ask Copperfield if you become a magician

Look like Tarzan talk like Jane! HAHA
