DO NOT LET KIDS WATCH THIS...

UNDER FREACKING 13! IT IS FOR A MATURE AUDIENCE, SO DON'T LET STUPID KIDS LOOK AT THIS! THEY WILL NOT UNDERSTAND IT, IT HAS A TRANSVESTITE IN IT!!!!!!

reply

Oh my stars and garters! Not a transvestite! Thank goodness my child already understands this concept from Kinky Boots, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything Love Julie Newmar, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and our local drag brunch. Plus, I try my hardest to teach her not to judge people.

I know not to feed the trolls, but I just cannot help it sometimes.

Hey, I think I would say no to someone under like 12. It's very complex and I can imagine kids under 12 being bored and it's freaky to them! Yes, it's got a transvestite, grotesque visuals, and some torturous and bizarre situations and it's very upsetting and creepy to younger kids. Laika's film, Paranorman seems to be aiming at those ages, too so it makes sense to rate this PG-13 so that 12-year-olds can go see it instead, I guess.

I think the problem is The Boxtrolls is very childish, it looks light-hearted, funny and feel-good to children but when you take kids and start feeling surprised that it was actually a bizarre tale of a monstrous, ugly idiot who wants a white hat and has a cheese allergy and he and his henchmen try to exterminate the boxtrolls and treat them so badly. I think if they had not threw in jokes and a predictable and simple plot to please the younger audiences, it wouldn't have that problem.

I've seen that problem in movies like "Kes" people think it's okay for children because of the kid-friendly look.

It's a guy who wants performs as a woman at times to achieve his goals.

Advances in medicine? What the... heck?

But... the transphobia and transmisogny makes less sense and they are different from transvestite so I don't know how people thought we were using that to mean transphobia or transmisogny! We were meaning that he just wants to get cheese, he derives pleasure from it so he dressed up as a woman to get his interest.

Trolling on the boxtrolls, funny! The guy dressed as a woman is akin to bugs bunny dressing up like a girl. Been done for a long time and it's not what you think it is. I guess in these times it's hard to tell but I didn't take it as a tranny.

And you are an idiot! Yes you, the person who made the sig look like part of the message!

My 3 year old and 6 year old love this movie. They also live in a town with a gay pride parade each year that heavily features drag queens. They love that too. I'm so proud of them

reply

Easily proud of them for watching a mature movie?? Ha! You probably are easy-to-please, aren't you?

reply

I'm 13 and this movie looks way too childish for my taste. Even if I were 9, I'd rather not

I still think that this is something for big kids but not teenagers, the story was clearly not aimed at them. It may have had serious and mature subjects and a dark tone but it is also quite happy and juvenile. But it would most likely scar those under the pre-teen demographic.

Not at all. My nieces love it.

Can't stop the signal.

My 6 year old daughter liked it just fine.
