My Personal Memories of 80's Wrestling on Late Night

During the advent period of the late 1980's I can recall those Saturday night late nights for 2 specific reasons. 1. I didnt have to worry about going to school the next day, and 2. I knew that Saturday Night's Main Event would be on. This show had the perfect feel of those days when WWF was a Saturday staplemate, and this being before RAW and SMACKDOWN made wrestling a weekly thing. I can recall many of the great moments that emunated from this incredible program, and I would like to list some of them if I may. 1. Hulk Hogan vs the Magnificent Muraco where King Kong Bundy and Don Muraco brutally injured Hogan.2. Randy Savage vs the Honky Tonk Man on the night the Megapowers first formed. Anyone remember when The Hart Foundation held Savage as Honky brought down the guitar which sent Elizabeth to the back to get Hogan?3. On the first ever episode you had Hulk Hogan vs Cowboy Bob orton for the WWF title.4. Uncle Elmer vs King Kong Bundy. 5. The Battle Royal where Andre eliminated Hogan and also bloodied Lanny Poffo. 6. Best 2 out of three falls The British Bulldogs vs Greg the Hammer Valentine and Brutus Beefcake 7. The late Bam Bam Bigelow vs Hercules 8. The wedding of Elmer and Joyce where Hot Rod interrupted the ceremony 9. Steamboat vs Mr Fuji in the Kung Fu Challenge, and finally my favorite the time Jake DDTED the Dragon on the concrete floor. I hope that my listing some of these moments brought back some memories.

Yeah I remember Elizabeth running to the back to get the Hulkster. I mean you think of it now and its like yeah whats the big deal? But back then I think I got goosebumps when Hogan came running through the locker room and out there to help out Savage.

Unfortunately for Savage all that really did was Rob of the spotlight.

How can you get goose bumps from something that is staged and scripted? Unless you thought it was real?

An amazing night of the month when SNL would take a break and wrestling was on. I was always amazed at the build up of matches they showed and loved every minute of it.
