What's the point of being a werewolf anyway?

He runs around and kills, kills, kills, slashes, maims, rips chunks out of bodies, kills, runs around, runs........ to awake in a hollow tree the next morning.

So that is the life of a werewolf? A real wolf would only kill to defend himself or to eat, first and foremost, I'd say. But being a werewolf is just going on a killing and slashing rampage, like being on a VERY bad trip? Totally psychopathic and nonsensical except being "bad"?

The goal for a "good" werewolf is just to kill as many people as he can? What happens after he has killed the last person on Earth? He's sitting by a lake, tossing stones in the water and getting terribly bored, I presume...

Well think about man throughout history - hunted, as in bloodsport, just for the fun of it. And the reasoning? just cause they can.

"I'm saying......i'll hurt you if you stay"

It's similar to possession stories /movies. A demon takes over a child's body, spits slime, turn the head 360 degrees, walks on the ceiling, throws a priest out of a window and then decides to pack up and move on. Well what's the point of that???

Werewolves unlike other supernatural creatures are the most human. Vampires, once changed are vampires at all times, much like zombies. Werewolves themselves represent the animalistic side of human nature, however they do not hunt and kill at random. It is literally the mix of man and beast. Along with this, werewolves are controlled by lunar patterns, which could relate to human hormone patterns controlling emotions. Werewolves represent the darkness that lurks inside every human being. Werewolves, when turned, have no goodness within them and they tear away the innocence of others, representing the evil side.
Wolfman can be easily related to the Gothic genre due to its use of dark shadows and ambiance as well as Lawrence’s transformation into insanity. After his transformation was complete, he was now an outcast to society, which is also a common gothic theme. This film also contained classic non-fiction scientific occurrences common to gothic movies such as the shock and ice bath therapy, when trying to prove that the werewolf was only in Lawrence’s head. Much of the movie was spent searching for Lawrence’s identity, up until the end when he faced the monster that he had become. In Wolfman during the last scene Lawrence is able to tap into his human side for only a moment when faced by the woman he is in love with, tapping into the romantic side of the Gothic genre. Being a werewolf is not just about brutal murder; it is about coming face to face with the dangerous creature inside all of us.
