Demi can't act..but are we surprised?

I just saw the trailer for this movie, and is that Demi's half-a$$ed attempt at a British accent? Yikes, couldn't she try harder? She is one of the worst actresses out there, and I never thought she was attractive either. Hopefully Michael Caine will save this film..

If you judge a film based on what you saw in the trailer, then that proves only one thing. You're an idiot. I never thought that in my lifetime I'd see a performance by Demi Moore that would impress me. I was wrong. She's more than adequate in this film. And, for some inexplainable reason her raspy voice somehow
disappeared. As far as her looks go, she's far from homely. Not my taste, but not homely by any means.

When you move to another country where they speak English, like British Isles or Australia, you pick up the accent after a short time. If you are a New Yorker and move to Texas, you will sound Texan in a couple of years and all your family up North will notice it---your kids will be totally Tex in a short time. but it will be a Hybrid, not the real thing. Hence her odd English accent.

There are only a handful of great actors in Hollywood, but there are many people acting and making millions. Most of the superstars get by on looks and personality---can you say Jennifer Anniston? Look at Tom Hanks. I don't think he is a GREAT actor, but he is very VERSATILE...and he is so LIKEABLE...there is a difference. i would say Michael Caine is GREAT, however.

Demi is trying to stay thin and beautiful for her husband. But you can't stop time. Actresses in their late 40s + are staying real skinny but it doesn't help the face. That is why they get cheek implants and lip implants, etc. And end up looking like Frankenstein.

Demi stay natural--you are very pretty. Look at Ellen Burstyn if you want to see a still beautiful woman.

One of the very best examples of staying beautiful in your senior years was Jessica Tandy.

Why is it that Americans seem to think there is only way people in Britain should sound; i.e. An English Accent? In reality there is a broad range from the incomprehensible to accents so mild they are almost nil and all in a country so small.

Nina is right that Foreigners arrive sounding like their homeland and end up soundng quite posh. Michael Caine can do a whole range of voices. The movie "Sleuth" he speaks with two completely different.

Demi Moore sounded just fine to me. I thought she looked great. That flambouyant early '60s hair style and red lips and nails seemed natural on her. WHen she curled up at home around that table in those silk jammies, she was very appealing. Yes, she is quite the dish in this movie.

Acting. It seems to me that acting is not always Theatrical but often Natural. Sometimes, it should not show but appear effortless.

I enjoyed her in this movie which was a lot if fun to watch.

Well, it's a two-way street. A lot of British folks think the same thing about American accents, and I've heard some great faked American accents from British actors and I've also heard some downright atrocious ones that sound awful and forced, but I don't really care, it's just a movie after all. =)

That said, I am American and I will be perfectly honest in that *to my ears* Demi Moore's accent sounded just about the same as everyone else in the movie, I'm sure if I had been living in England all these years instead of the states though I'd definitely hear a difference. It's all about what you're used to, just like there have been some British actors doing horrible American accents and I doubt that many people in England really noticed it, and I can't say I blame them for it at all, like I said it just depends on what you're used to hearing and whether or not you grew up around it. =D

I think Demi was very good in this movie. I have no feelings toward her one way or another, I went to the movie to be entertained. I thought she was channeling Tippi Hedren and did a fine acting job. The character was supposed to be wooden !!

reply

I like Demi. I think she is both very attractive and a very good actress. Like any actors, she is better in some films over others, but she has been in roles no one else could have pulled off.

reply

I suspect Demi was trying for an English accent and couldn't quite hit it so they gave her an out and said she was an American educated at Oxford to cover her PanAtlantic accent. Nothing wrong with her acting as such and an ok movie.

reply

Nope. She's like Madonna, far too aware of herself.

"Moore has always been an actress with a deep, intuitive intelligence, and it's a shame that the public's perception of her - and maybe her conception of herself - should have been sidetracked in the '90s by her publicity antics and cult-of-the-body posturing. What a decline from "Mortal Thoughts" and "Ghost" to "Striptease" and "G.I. Jane" - her filmography goes from great movies to mediocre movies to movies bordering on the neurotic. The good news is that "Flawless" represents, finally, a return to form, or maybe something even better, the beginning of a strong second act.

Actually, there's no reason the best isn't yet to come for Moore. She's a middle-aged powerhouse. She's Susan Hayward and Joan Crawford combined. She's an actress of turbulence and concentration who can swing for the fences. Let's hope she gets the chance."

Worth seeing Demi Moore films:

The Juror
A Few Good Men
About Last Night
St. Elmo's Fire (yes, even that one)

I thought she played her role just fine. I loved the film.

I can't beleive you're judging Demi from a trailer. I've seen many trailers in my day and I've learned that you can't judge a movie or a performance from a trailer. You're one of those people who delight in trashing actors and movies for the sake of appearing smart. An ex friend of mine once asked me if Katherine Hepburn was an actress or a star, the inference being that an actress is greater than a mere star. As a film actor I've learned that all actors in films, whether they be "stars" or "actors" work very hard. Yes there are bad stars but there are also bad actors. In the last acting class I took a student mentioned how impressed he was with Peter O'toole in "Troy". Oh my that was a mistake. The teacher patiently indulged that input and then remarked what a much better actor was Marlon Brando. Don't get me wrong, I love Brando, but for this *beep* teacher to belittle Peter O'Toole, an actor who has accomplished so much more than he will ever achieve...well, I never went back to that *beep* for any wisdom on the acting profession. And now back to Ms. Moore, She did a brillient job of portraying an Ameican woman who in the 50's was educated in England, rose to a certain prominance in her profession, but was stymied by the powers that be who cursed her for her gender and so she had to resort to some sculduggery to get her way. She portrayed an American woman educated in England. Her performance was on target and her accent was, in the parlance of our beloved Variety magazine, BOFFO!

She gave a very good performance, her best in decades.

1st. Micheal Caine saves most any move he is in.

2nd. Your half assed observance of the movie neglects to notice that Demi
was never portrayed as a native and was in fact an American working at
a London firm therefor would of course not have a British accent.
The OP is a failure at observation.

3rd. Your definition of attraction or not is not even not worthy. Neither
is mine but I do find her attractive. It matters not.

4th. I find Demi a competent actress. I suspect the OP is a bigger failure
in real life than Demi is in his view of her acting abilites.

This movie was a solid 9 in my view and I enjoyed it very much.
Looked great on my 46 inch big screen TV.

reply

Yeah, her accent wasn't bad. Better than I expected and better than last time I heard her use one (the Scarlet Letter).

reply

Probably, the best performance i ever seen of her, she work her butt off in this movie and proove she is better than we all think !

Last Movies:- Watchmen - 5/5
- Taken - 4/5

I agree Cinema Love. She was excellent in Flawless. The role required a lot of her -supressed feelings, hidden stress, the stoniness required working in an all male environment in the 1960s, etc. She managed very very well. One of the best of her performances in film.

reply

The shifting accent completely ruined her performance. It's like they wrote her being an American into the script merely because she couldn't maintain a British accent throughout. Why not just have her be American then and stay with a consistent accent?

That and the terrible age mask cheapened an otherwise neat little movie. Michael Caine is amazing.

reply

Trailers are misleading as scenes are often not in chronological order, not to mention we have little knowledge of the shooting schedule... She may well have improved the longer she spent on set, because overall I thought she did OK here, and I say this having watched the entire film! It's a bit unfair of you to judge if you don't have the complete picture.
