I really liked it...any recommendations?

I absolutely loved this movie. Does anyone have any recommendations for other movies to see?

The problem with the future is that it keeps turning into the present. -Calvin & Hobbes

This film is somewhat similar in theme. http://www.funnyhahafilm.com/

It is also interesting to note that the filmmaker cites Cassevetes as one of his influences. (Zoe's dad?) :D

reply

Yes, John C was Zoe's dad.

I liked the movie too--it wasn't great, but not awful--a good start for Zoe. Entertaining, but not too serious, nor too funny.

One thing I didn't like on the DVD was the extras--not very good at all. The guy filming "the making of . . ." and that whole sequence was a waste.

Le rayon vert by Eric Rohmer definitely. The plot is pretty similar but in my opinion Le rayon vert is way better...

I LOVE this movie too, but did anyone think it would have been so easy for her to call Glen (her co-worker who introduced her to Julien) to ask from Julien's phone number????

I took it for what it was, just another romatic movie!

reply

She says she did try calling Glen.

2 Days in Paris.

You should really watch that movie if you liked Broken English. That one is just amazing!

The other posters covered most of the obvious similar movies with female leads. Though a bit frothier, you'd probably also like Desperately Seeking Susan. For movies with male protagonists which nonetheless handle relationships with a similar sophistication (if not always as sensitively), I'd also suggest Igby Goes Down, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sex Lies and Videotape, Sideways, The Tao of Steve, and the mordantly dark but brilliant Roger Dodger (and I don't say that lightly, as I've always wanted to be described as mordantly dark but brilliant). You could throw in Something Wild for fun, too. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the movie which, for my money, offers the best (comic) part ever written for a woman: The Lady Eve.

Desperately Seeking Susan is a masterpiece!! Yes!

Also:

Under the Tuscan Sun -- Diane Lane and Sandra Oh are awesome in this!

Amelie -- another masterpiece; beautiful characters, beautiful art direction; wonderful music... all in Par-ee!

Party Girl -- Parker Posey is having a "quarter-life" crisis in this NYC film

Annie Hall -- another masterpiece with Diane Keaton and Woody Allen in NYC

Next Stop Wonderland -- a fantastic NYC film with indie actress Hope Davis

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown -- another masterpiece set in Madrid, Spain; the lead is wonderful; Antonio Banderas is criminally gorgeous in this wild comedy (Almodovar is another genius.)

I assume you've already seen "Star Wars," "Alien," and "The Matrix." In other words, romances or romantic comedies in roughly the same vein. In other words, your typical chick flicks. I'd recommend these (in no particular order):

Before Sunset
Before Sunrise
Roman Holiday
The Goodbye Girl
Tootsie
"About Last Night..."
An Officer and a Gentleman
Muriel's Wedding
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Mr. Wonderful
Notting Hill
In Her Shoes
The Opposite of Sex
The Wedding Banquet
The Girl in the Cafe
The Waitress
Defying Gravity
