My roommate's daughter is deaf. She nearly cried when we tried to watch this without subtitles. Argh!! Why would a film made in 2006 be so medieval in it's offerings??
I hadn't spotted that. I do find it irritating when there are no subtitles. My hearings OK, but I quite like to have them on if there's any background noise. I'll ask, next time I get a chance.
[Later] I've just looked on Play.com and they say it has subtitles. I'll check an actual disc when I get home. Which version do you have? There were three released in the UK (region 2): a one disc version, a two-disc version with all the extras and a deluxe version which was exactly the same discs as the two-disc version, but in a fancier box which had a code giving access to a website. IF YOU HAD VERY GOOD EYESIGHT! :-) Took me ages to find it!
Well, I've looked at the boxes of all three versions, and they all say they have subtitles. I only have access to the UK releases - where did you get the disc which doesn't have subtitles?
I agree. I'm having some temporary hearing problems. I can crank the volume, but I still have problems with accents. I hope they fix this and re-release.
I am not hearing impaired but I like to turn on subtitles in case I miss something (especially when it's movie or tv show with accents-they can be difficult to understand). I was severly disappointed that the US DVD does not have any. I thought there was a federal law that said they all had to?
But yes, it made me sad, a bit disappointed and a little angry (I suppose the filmmakers would just tell a deaf person to read the book instead?).
"I suppose the filmmakers would just tell a deaf person to read the book instead?"
I am so used to people being negative on some of these boards, that I only could assume your polite post was going to turn out to be mean-spirited and say..............I suppose the filmmakers would just tell a deaf person to read the lips of the actors instead.
Thank you for being normal and not a smart-ass like so many on these chat boards try to be, which is usually always offensive.
