Here's how it should have ended...

First let me say I know it has to be true to the book but...

Here's how I was expecting it to end.

Leonard, try as he might is having real trouble finishing the novel. What with struggling for ten years and now a stroke.

Heather being so in tune with Leonard and his former works, in the end comes to appreciate his later works by long, in depth, discussions with Casey.

Heather then rekindles her friendship with Leonard and acts as a vehicle through which Leonard finishes his novel. Heather at last gets to read it before publication and draws the essence of the novel from Leonard.

She uses her laptop to rapidly enter the text. They mutually review and revise it. The final novel evolves into his best work yet.

I'm still waiting for this ending...

So then are you retitling the movie, "Finishing It All Up in the Morning?" One of the things I find perfect about this movie is the match between the ending and the title. It all made sense. And it certainly does not need changing. It is Casey who helps Leonard realize that you're never too old to try and do what you know how to do. Because even if you don't finish or you don't do it at the same level you once were capable of, you're doing what you love.

LOL @ "Finishing IT All Up in the Morning"

That would've been a funny title.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Or how about "Happy Ending in the Morning"? ;)

Then it would have been just another typical Hollywood feel good ending.

Yeah , your ending. Just your typical holywood fair.

But this one.

Defeat, friendship between two men who love her very much. Keep on trying even if you lose. Taking what you can get.

Honest.

In a fair universe, we would all be better people.

You completely missed the point of the movie. The deeper, very tragic point.

For Miranda's sake! Why don't you add a bit of dancing and singing?

It's a story about a tedious life of an old writer who is toyed by a simple-minded literary groupie who is a natural manipulator and is instinctively aware of her power of sexuality, which she employes as the mean to get what she needs from him.
After everything she did to him, there's no way he wanted to rekindle his friendship (or whatever it was) with her. She left him cold and hopeless. But maybe, there's something interesting thing for him to write after all the toying and manipulating he had been through.
