The MacGuffin of the Oracle Machine

I liked this film, and I definitely get that whatever the machine was and whoever Alpha, Beta and Commander "Fred" Delta were is just not important to the plot. It's all a film device, it's all a "MacGuffin" to give a shout out to Alfred Hitchcock.

But I can't help wondering all the same...was all this a top secret government deal, or were they otherworldly, or what? Anyone have any opinions or thoughts?

Thanks!

The walls that are not only white, but phosphorescent? Guys with names like Alpha and Beta? The three guys in identical suits? Definitely otherworldly.

Now the computer, that's government. Clearly Alpha, Beta, and Fred bought it used from FEMA.

Biggest proof that Alpha, Beta, and Fred aren't with the government? It's this: If the Bush Administration had a computer that could predict the future, the movie wouldn't be a comedy.

I think the idea of the machine is an interesting one and I really liked the group of guys who played Alpha Beta, Fred (even more so fred, but that guy is seriously hilarious in EVERYTHING he does, he really under rated.)

If the machine could figure out our destiny it would mean that nothing happens by chance, and that could imply that there is a great creator who planed this life all out for us, there's really not much to go on because they don't give any details on what the machine uses to determine these things.
It could locate people to the exact time and place they were going to be, now this could do this off of calculations on past behaviors thoughts the persons wants needs, to me it all seems like so much that it would have to be some how paranormal in the sense that it can see our destiny, but also in the movie they say "science doesn't care if we live or die!" so that makes me think it was more of a science thing.

But I found myself wanting to know more about the machine, and the group.
maybe it's just my interest in to those types of subjects but it pulled me in and I wanted to know more, I even found myself getting mad at the fact that they only told him one of the worlds most mysterious things (even though I know it's all fake).

Been over a year but I completely agree. Robert Wisdom, Tanc Sade and Patton Oswalt were all good in this and the entire scene that starts where Baker's character stares at the computer and remarks "So this is it...?" (or something to the effect) made watching the whole film worth it.

I'm certain it's a branch of the Adjustment Bureau, a department for things that maybe need things other than simple 'adjusting'.

That was the crappiest part of the film. It didn't need to be explained how he got the list.

Why was Gamma left out?
