From a male perspective

I'm a guy, I watch the occasional rom-com out of interest and a silly need to "keep current" and I watched this..mostly because John Krasinski is in it, and discounting the fact that I'm a fan of his. I was sitting there the whole movie under the complete impression that he was going to wind up with the girl, instead they abandon his character 20 minutes before the movie is over and he gets no real closure at all, there's a cute little cutscene where we see him running from Kate Hudson, I've never read the books so I'm sure they elaborate more but really he was the only character I could even begin to empathize with, especially when he gets shot down, having been in that situation. It killed the movie for me to be honest.

I thought the same thing. I too am a guy and I've been in that situation before and it sucks. You like a girl a lot, you're her rock as it were, and yet she lusts after every one else BUT you. The guy that was marrying Kate Hudson (Dex) was a pussy tbh and it was obvious who ran that show from the get go. Yeah both that guy and the Rachel character were push overs and Kate Hudson's character was necessary. People always say we seek out our opposites and why? Because we have to complete ourselves! Kate Hudson had the balls to say what needed to be said when the other characters didn't. I wouldn't have been attracted to Kate at all in this movie, and Ginnifer was cute here, but in the end balance is the name of the game and two weak and cowardly people wouldn't get very far. Whereas Kate Hudson and that mindless idiot hitting on everyone at the bar will be an unstoppable force. Their kids will probably be outgoing and confident too just because of their parents dispositions. Then there's the best friend who poured his heart out to her after she was rejected by the guy she had a crush on... Yeah where's his "happy ending?" He's in another country, alone, and yeah... It was a lousy ending.

It's a movie where everything is shades of gray. Everyone cheats and sleeps around and they all want someone they can never have. Only the main characters finally get what they want and I am fine with that.

Dex is an interesting character as males are usually completely confident in movies like this. Dex is unsure of everything and does not know what to do. Does he get married to someone for the wrong reasons, or get married to the one he loves but doesn't think she ever saw him as more than a friend.

In fact Dex though he was friend zones and Rachel said as much. But it was a nice movie. I enjoyed the main characters and they had no choice but to make Kate Hudson the villain. I hear people complain and I agree as it did seem out of left field. But the movie is about shades of gray and I though is was fine.

in the book he has no romantic feelings for rachel. and it was set up for the sequel book Something Blue which explains the relationship between ethan and darcy.... and how they both always secretly wanted one another. thats why it ended like that. its so diff from the book. henever confesses any feelings for her whatsoever. she deos go to london but its described in the book as a fun trip and she meets ethans new friends and thats it. ethan isin love with darcy. was always stricctly platonic with rachel. the movie was very miscast. darcy is supposed to be tall, thin like a super model body, long dark hair, dark eyes and VERY snooty and catty. rachel is supposed to be plain looking but very smart and sweet and too sensitive. ginnifer goodwin is too gorgeous to play that role. essp when ses prettier than kate hudon in this film. shes not supposed to be anywhere near as pretty as darcy.
