This is the best animated film I've ever seen. (is anything better?)

And in my top 5 all time. Truly a rare gem. I hope to see more like this.

I believe I've seen pretty much everything in the animated genre.
Please recommend other animated films you think are better than The Secret of Kells. There might be a winner I've missed.
(Don't bother mentioning "Avatar" which imo is a sad testament to the downward spiral of humanity. The bottom of the barrel in over priced drivel.)
Many 3D animated films weak, but some are good. My favorite 3D film would be Dragon Hunters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944834/.

The right state of mind is necessary to experience the full effect of The Secret of Kells. If one is distracted or disturbed, internally or externally, or over saturated with sensory stimulation, one can easily miss the full experience.
I watched it by myself, very early in the morning, in a clear zen state, and was completely absorbed and blown away. Sure it works for the kids or a party popcorn flick but it likely won't have the same depth and complexity under those circumstances.

This is a phenomenal animated flick. Other animated films that I've seen that are on par with it:

Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Grave of the Fireflies
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Wall-e
Toy Story 1-3
Ratatouille
Fantasia
Beauty and the Beast
Pinochio
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

The Thief and the Cobbler [1993] (later known as the Princess and the Cobbler).

Due to the meticulous detail put into the drawing for this film, it was in production for nearly thirty years. Then unfortunately, when it was around 80% complete, production was suddenly rushed and the end result is a bit incomprehensible with irregular drawing style (like at times it alternates between crappily-drawn still pictures and then nearly CGI-like precision put into each movement and background).

I still say check it out for the sake of the visual.

Flash! I love you but we only have 14 hours to save the world!

If you loved Kells, then you may well enjoy Kirikou (Also called Kirikou and the Sorceress). It is a French movie based on an African folktale, and the animation is great--especially at the end. I don't know that I'd call Kirikou "better" than Kells, but it is a great movie.

This movie reminded me a lot of Tezuka's Metropolis. Similar scenery porn, and another movie that I thoroughly enjoyed.
