Shocked I liked it - but I need some gaps filled in

Ok first of all I want to say that I thought this was a really good film. I don't watch many westerns. I've got nothing against the genre, but I just don't watch them.

So for starters I was shocked I liked it. Duval and Church helped contribute to that though. Very likeable guys in the movie. "Good guys" if you will.

But I was watching this at my girlfriends parents. It was their Thanksgiving dinner (the Saturday after because her mom worked on Thanksgiving). So there was a lot of commotion and what not.

Couple of questions.

Why did the younger sisters have to go away? Why not just stay with their sister and Thomas Hayden Church's character?

Why did Duvall not stay with the woman? The prostitute? Was he that scarred of losing another family?

Firstly I don't think the girls are sisters, but I know what you're talking about...

I think that the younger girls really didn't get much choice in the matter. They were just put on a wagon and at the last minute the oldest climbed out to be with Tom.

And as far as Print and Nola, it's hard to tell whether or not Nola actually likes him. She seems to get pretty angry with him towards the end of the film. I kinda figured that the two of them are fed up with love, and they would much rather just be friends. Also her and Print probably figured it would be best to have her travel with the other girls...

just an idea, hope it helps!

Slainte!

It's hard to say, but something was wrong. She seemed to like him, but he was more reticent for some reason. Maybe he didn't read her because she didn't come out and say it or maybe he thought he was getting too old and set in his ways.
