Is it really that bad?

I've heard a lot of bad things about Space Chimps, so I've decided to wait for it to come out on DVD before I see it. When I saw the preview for Space Chimps it actually looked kind of good, but it has a 3.8 rating and thats bad.
So, for those of you that have seen this movie, could you please list your age, and what you rated SC?
I'm trying to see what most people thought of the movie.
Also, should I see it in theatres or wait for it to come out on DVD?

Its like a 3rd year graphic design student's final project if they decided the diologue had to suit the interests of 5-year-olds.

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this movie.

I'm 32, I love animation and I gave it 5/10.

Wait for DVD or even TV. It is very average with story which sticks strictly to formula. So strictly you can predict entire scenes, dialogue and body language. In the right mood it might entertain you. The main aliens were really badly designed.

Yes--it really is that bad. It's not just the story, characters, lame, LAME jokes--the animation is TERRIBLE--it's so bad that it's distracting. I would rather watch Wall-E again or Ratatouille, both excellent examples of what animation COULD be. The casting of the voice characters left a lot to be desired as well. Too bad--I thought it was a good concept for a movie.

I watched it at the last run theatre tonight and had a blast!!! It's a lot of fun, the whole cast did a great job with their characters!

"They're playing follow the leader alright -- right over a cliff!!!"

I'm 20 and I just saw it tonight, I like these kind of movies but I really didn't this one, it was too much of a cliché.. every single scene was predictable and the jokes have been used billions of times, the idea of the whole thing was pretty good but the script was just poorly written

It has copped a caning and people had told me its bad. So i had free tickets and took my 6 year old daughter, myself, i am 46.
I was pleasantly surprised. I had braced myself for 90 minutes of pain but it was a bit of fun and far better than toturing yourself with the likes of Max Payne. My kid enjoyed it and had some genuinely humorous moments. Neither great nor bad 5/10.
Perhaps we are being to spoilt with the wonderful animated gems that keep on coming.

It was watchable, but left a lot to be desired.

The aliens were the worst part of the film in my opinion. The villain was not even 2-dimensional - a one-note cliche that I found really grating. And the other aliens were simply pathetic - they didn't even seem to want to save themselves, but would give full effort to the villain's plans even when he was far away.

The stuff on earth however was quite good. If they had been able to make the story without the aliens I think it would have been much better.

I wonder if anyone else noticed the sly reference to the other similar-themed film during the take-off sequence?

im a 19 year old guy. found it really giggly to watch. actually im watching it for the first time right now. about half way through. cant stop laughing while hams accusing the alien hobbit with the planet sized head of being drunk. maybe its only funny cuz im drinking as i watch this...

i give it an 8.0 rating for 'movies to watch while drunk'

My answers to your questions:

Yes.
38 3/4
2/10
Neither - if you watch this dross you'll be utterly wasting about 90 minutes of your life either way

Hope this helps!

I gave it a 5/10. The IMDB reviews are a tad harsh, but I feel many are tired of these obvious efforts by the studios to rush out subpar CGI movies in order to get their piece of the market pie before it dries up. Of course, the market will likely "dry-up" due to so many mediocre efforts/concepts being pushed into production.

Space Chimps is purely a "cash-in" effort. Uninspired animation and a lame story. Unfortunately, CGI has become box office gold and many "lowest bidder" type productions have resulted as the studios rush to get their piece of the pie. It's becoming very clear that if a CGI movie's animation efforts aren't at least on par with what is currently being offered, it will more than likely be a poor film. Space Chimps is no exception. That being said, it still made roughly $70 million on a poor man's CGI budget of nearly $40 million. Another reason why "cashing-in" will continue until many more of these half hearted CGI efforts start to utterly bomb.
