this film is not for Children

dont let your children watch this crap..... it'll make them think that in the past earth had flying turtles and flying piranha birds.......

basing a fun film on facts would not have hurt

reply

This is one of those rare films that should definitely be shown for generations. It makes them appreciate life!

Regardless of one's personal mythology, I would like to think it is possible to teach children the difference between fiction and reality. If a parent can't accomplish that, it's probably best for them to prevent their children from reading or seeing any fiction at all. Well, no, it's probably best that those who can't successfully explain reality to children not have children in the first place. Unfortunately, we still don't license or test for parenthood.

For those who are confused, this film is not a documentary, nor is it "based on a true story." Please do not use it as a history lesson for your children. There. Now you don't have to worry about misleading your children about flying turtles or land sharks. I'm not sure how they feel about talking animals and singing teacups, though.

So children should, instead, be watching other animated films with talking animals, magic food, clothed mice and dogs the same size who somehow have pet dogs that behave like real ones? And this film, but not those, will ruin their views of reality?

If it's any consolation, I survived watching The Flintstones and reading Alley Oop without ever believing that humans and dinosaurs co-existed. Visits to museums, a good encyclopedia, and lots of good science books balanced facts against entertainment. For what it's worth, I lived in a Bible Belt town but never knew people had any religious issues with this topic until I was a lab assistant in college and was physically attacked by a fundamentalist Freshman girl while I was helping with a presentation comparing traits in preserved specimens in the context of adaptation and evolution. Regardless of whether the source is religious teaching or entertainment, people should not let their kids learn science from either. I assume they would not want the kids learning religion or science from a cartoon. My standards must be too high, though, judging by the numerous posts on IMDB by people who can't tell the difference between and actor and characters he/she plays.

My kids loved it except for the part where it showed the dad's under pants cause of the tigar rip his cloths. I rather have my kids watch this than Harry Potter, Snow White, The Princes and the frog and ect. Those shows are really dark compared to this movie. There is NO magic in it. And my friend who is a very true Christian let her kids watch it also but will not let her kids watch movied with magic in them. I thought Disney went way too far on Princess and the frog with the voo zoo. So, I thought this movie was cute. That is just life. I am a hunter. I would kill a deer or a bear or something to put food in the freezer. Back then, they had to hunt and around the time of Jesus also. I am a true Christian also.
I watch Thunder Cats, the Jestons and those cartoons when I was a little girl.

There is only one earth since God created it. But
They will be a new(second) earth in the feature.

rickystickyman, I suppose you also believe that one man (and his family) were the only people on this planet that God liked and that he had this man grab a male and a female from every species on the planet and put them on a boat?

...............ZING!

That's not the weirdest one. My personal favourite has gotta be the story of Lot.

Incest, rape, mass genocide, turning wives into decorative statues...all the tales that young children should definitely be reading.

reply

Lol I refer to Lot's stories when I explain why I dislike the bible's "teachings of morality", among others. However, I stopped trying to defend my lack of faith in that silly book.

You're leaving out, maybe, the most important part. IF, there were only one family left, presumably with no one else to pass their genes on to, aside from THEIR OWN GENETIC POOL; the likelihood of defects goes up exponentially. The most likely of those defects: infertility. Which *kind* of puts a crimp in any plans to repopulate an entire planet. Let alone the creep factor of having to sleep with your sister. I love my sisters, all 5 of them, but yeeesh.
*cringe*

The problem is that there are points in paleolithic history where "genetic bottle necking" has taken place (due most likely to secluded island hopping peoples, or peoples separated by some similar terrain obstacle, i.e. deserts, mountains) and the faithful use that as proof of a flood or some similar catastrophe, at which point the flood becomes allegory. Though I do believe there is a point in PRE-HISTORY that they've determined could be the source of the flood myth. A break in the area separating the (moving west) Sea of Marmara, The Aegean, and finally the Mediterranean Sea from what is NOW the Black Sea. That break being the Bosphorus Strait. There they've found submerged settlements.
Honestly I shouldn't even be posting here I haven't seen the movie, can't speak to it. BUT, how in the name of anything sane did this thread take on a religious bent Zing? I don't know your stand on religion (I can extrapolate from your post you are at least dubious), and I know you didn't set it on this tack, who invited the transposed, mistranslated, and regurgitated collection of fables tome-thumpers? Where is this "woodwork" they keep crawling in from? Why does religion need to insinuate itself into every single nook, cranny, and crevice not filled by something else, like say ENTERTAINMENT.

If you have to look at everything through a book, you should get a drill and a hole saw. Am I right or am I right?

Wait for it....

The creatures were not very well designed but it did make it more interesting I thought - I'd rather have children of today grow into designers than scientists. If your kid wants to be a scientist it's probably not for him/her, I'd agree on that.
I even thought dinosaurs would have made the movie better, how much sense does that make :)

OP is an idiot with no imagination.
So don't let your kids watch Shrek because they will think the world has ogres? or Toy Story because they think their toys will come alive? Suppose Nemo made them think fish talk, and that vikings flew on dragons?

*beep* idiot troll go home.
