Is the film sexist?

did anyone else think the tone of the film was pretty harsh towards men?

i mean we have this central character, a pretty and intelligent girl who saves the family's lives over and over. the second this dude meets her, he starts beating her up, holding her down, getting her to 'make fire' as if it comes out of her mouth. it's not long before he's dragging her around like some kind of plaything, just because he finds her cute or whatever (he obviously finds her attractive)

as the film goes on, she literally ends up getting shoved in a log and carried around. she says she needs to get out, that she has a reason to live, and he just replies "not any more :)" no-one cares about her safety (to the point where she almost falls off a cliff) yet everyone expects her to help and protect them.

i mean i know the genders are reversed but don't you think that's bad? isn't it wrong to portray people like they're practically worthless, just because of their gender?

You're clearly missing the point of what racism and sexism is. Do the research then delete your message because you're making a fool of yourself in public.

Isn't it the guy that gets put in the log not the girl! So your 3 paragraph doesn't make sense!!

Ya know, I just thought OP was being silly at first, but then I think he was trying to make a point with thr gender reversal...blahblahblah...he got what he wanted, though...pontifications on sexism.

I don't see sexism in the film, but I do see people projecting their own issues here.

It's amazing how people can read this much into a film simply because a man isn't the one in power but they think sexism against women doesn't exist.

Is eveybody on here ten years old? Where's the sexism?? Like someone else said Guy gets treated like that because he's new and the whole family's been led to believe that new=dangerous. If Guy had been a woman it would have made no difference.

Anyway what's really sexist is calling Ugga's role as caregiver passive and somehow inferior to Grug's role as head of the family and hunt leader. It's like saying she needs to leave the baby at home and run around worrying weird animals in order to be equal to Grug. They're both clearly capable of fulfilling each other's roles as we can see - he does care for the kids and she does hunt - it happens that they do less of that because he's a better hunter and she's a better caregiver.

No, it is not sexist.

If it is sexist, it's completely unintentional. Every character is strong in their own way and is meant to represent the different types of strengths present in society. If it's sexist, it's because they placed one particular type of strength with a man instead of a woman or vice versa.

Regarding your criticism, it would be sexist if you could reverse the roles and everything would be the same. Why do you want guys and girls to be the same? Why should guys and girls be interchangeable? Guy being carried around in a log is a metaphor for the daughter's love interest to be keenly watched by the father. Fathers tend to be more protective of their daughters than mothers when it comes to boyfriends. Guy almost being killed accidentally shows that sometimes the family cares more about the family than the outsider.

Guy was the most important character in the whole movie because he kept pushing them toward tomorrow. He was the most fearless, most adventurous, smartest out of any one of them when it came to surviving in the new world. Everyone had their strengths, and Guy had his. If you want to be sexist, you could make him the alpha and not have to capitulate at all, but that's not the kind of person he is meant to represent. He goes along willingly. He's not a capture. He's agreeing to help them under certain circumstances, which he eventually manages to convince them out of otherwise. Everyone is depending on him not only for survival, but also for inspiration to survive, to stay out of the cave. He's the person you'd most want to be if you're a male and looking for a mate.

nonsense ! it's noooooooot!!!!! :|

this is pathetic. It was the father hot the daughter who put guy in the log. Also, she's clearly stronger than him, he's skinny and she's very bulked up w/o being fat. Of course she'd easily beat him
