Why did they record the video?

I couldn't help but wonder why Ricky Verona and his gang recorded that video that was played in the beginning. For one thing, it was evidence that they were behind the murder. Why would they leave that?

Another thing about it: How did they know that he would have "about one hour" left to live?

If he really had 1 hour left, why did they leave the video so that he would use that hour to hunt them down, rather then let him wonder what had happened for that hour and then die?

It seems like a plot hole to me. At least it does not seem conceivable that a gang would do that, or what?

Killing Chev outright would not have made the point - that he should have thought twice before whacking Don Kim (even though he really didn't).

The video was to let Chev know WHY he was being whacked, and to add some good ol' torture to the execution.

Brains are good, especially when sauteed with carmelized onions.

Showing him the video is exactly to give him an hour to think about what he did - which is piss off the Chinese mob, albeit it was on Carlito's orders. So that's clear.

However, what's not clear is, what did they expect him to do in that hour? Stay at home and cry? Didn't they realize he would go hunt them down? Or at very least go to the hospital and call the police, so there's the evidence that will bring more heat on the gang.

Still, it's an awesome action movie, so don't think about it too much.

The video made a lot of sense to me because it rubbed salt in the wound. He says later it wouldn't have satisfied him to just kill Chev
