Getting beat up by casino security...

OK, what's the deal here? Either it's illegal, or the Casino can refuse to let you play. Either way, this is not the first movie where the punishment for getting caught is to be brutally beaten by the security team and threatened to get killed.

In Casino the Scorsese film, it wasn't that strange because the issue of major corruption was already part of the story.

Is it the same thing that goes on in this? Are we just supposed to assume that there is no real law in Las Vegas? 'Cause I REALLY don't get it. Seems like he just could have gone to the police for getting beat up. Why the hell did he even agree to join them on their "let's take a walk" proposition?

It was dramatized for the movie. The casino would of had one of it's managers have security pull him out of his game and taken to an office somewhere and questioned. If they felt like he was lying to them and had been counting, they would blackbooked him (banned) and asked him to leave. He would not be able to come back to the casino, or any of it's affiliates. If he did, he would be asked to leave or be removed from the building.

Yes, it still happens, but not as often as when the mob was in charge. Indian reservations can be sketchy since they are "sovereign nations" and standard law enforcement doesn't usually apply.

BTW, those scenes in "Casino" most likely happened along with much worse and equally stereotypical mob assaults/murders. They always had at least 1 actual mobster on set to keep everything realistic, all they way down to how they smoke cigarettes.

yes, what casinos legally can do is to ban the gambler/ card counter and ask him to leave. They are not allowed to rob all his his money or beat him up.

In real life, the casinos didn't beat up anyone, but there's a strong suggestion that one of the two MIT teams hired goons to beat up members of the other one.

Then one of the team members (idiotically) blew the whistle on the other team, and BOTH teams got blackballed.

This operation could've gone on indefinitely otherwise. Casinos were completely unprepared for this strategy. They knew that if a player kept altering the size of his bets, and winning overall, he was probably a counter and should be banned. The MIT counters kept betting the same amounts, and only "increased bets" by calling over a big-money player.

Some of the "whale" players even got comped junket trips back to Vegas. As far as the casinos knew, they were just rich Chinese kids who happened to be lucky. Common wisdom told them, get these kid back in Vegas, and they'd eventually lose.

Kind of annoying how greed gets the better of a good thing.
