2.7 - Unbelievable

Generally I find IMDB User Ratings to be useful and fairly accurate, sure I have had some disagreements with certain movies but every once and awhile I come across a film ratting like Pride’s. There is no good reason for it to be a 2.7, it’s times like this the IMDB User Rating is crap. Just because you don’t like a film people, doesn’t mean it’s a 1 or just cause you love a movie doesn’t make it a 10. Have some kind of fair judgment on film, or jus don’t vote at all. A 2.7 is in no way a fair rating for this film, I personally will give it an 8, which is probably higher then most. So, when I come on IMDB I won’t be surprised to see it in the 7 or 6 rang, hell even the low 5’s. People who screw with the voting system should be thrown out, come on people just be fair. Even if this kind have sports movie has been done before, even if you hate the actors, even if you think it is untrue to life, a 3 or lower pretty much is saying the movie has little or nothing good about it, and of this film that just ain’t so.

Yeah, I have to agree...

I just saw this movie last night with my friend and brother, and we really liked it!

I came to IMDB to add it to my list... and I was utterly shocked!

The rating for this movie is WAY to low. Like, unbelievably and unfairly low... it just boggles my mind how low it is. :\ I was totally expecting it to be at LEAST around 8 points... but 3???

I'm so sad... whomever has been rating it low is lying to themselves AND to the rest of IMDB...

This movie was great! It's an awesome movie about community and perseverance. The characters' changes in attitude were inspirational, and it's totally one of those "underdog" movies--not to mention the fact that it's based on true events.

Hrm... maybe that's what it is though? People refuse to believe that human beings could really be this cruel, and so they rated it low to reinforce their denial?

Ah well... I give this movie 9 points! I liked it a lot! ^___^

I agree. It was a good film and I've watched a few times over now. Another great performance by Terrence Howard.

That's really lame. This movie deserves much more rating and appreciation. Sometimes IMDB raters are not accurate.

Exodus25X, did you see the version of Pride where Bernie Mac's eyes are bugging out or filling up with tears in every damn reaction shot. Name one distinctive character? The only thing with depth in this disposable recyled movie is the pool water!

reply

Wow. No way this is a 4.4. Only movies that deserve that are movies that completely suck, which this did not. I say 6 at absolute minimum. People say don't pull out the race card, but that is exactly what this is.

If you're out for revenge- dress with gusto.

IMDB is racist-I've always said that. In the case of this movie- its white guilt

The whole IMDB site is not racist, but there are a large amount of racist reviewers on this site. That's a fact. Every Tyler Perry movie gets a low score, even the good ones like "Why Did I Get Married" & "Diary of a Mad Black Woman". Neither of these films should score lower then a 6 seriously. Both movies are excellent.

Still, there are a few all black movies that did score well.

Boyz in the Hood (7.8) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101507/
The Color Purple (7.6) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088939/
Sounder (7.7) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069303/
Eve's Bayou (7.1) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119080/
Do The Right Thing (7.9) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097216/
A Raisin The Sun (8.0) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055353/
Lackawanna Blues (7.6) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407936/

I agree, that some of these films should have a higher score; especially, "The Color Purple, Eve's Bayou and Boyz in the Hood. There are a large number of prejudice people on her who will vote "1" on any more with a large minority cast. Most of the time, they haven't even seen the film. They just seem to feel that no movie with an all black cast should be rated as high as a movie with an all white cast (like The Godfather, Lord of the Rings, Inception, etc...).

While I do agree that black movies are rated notoriously lower than some of them should be on this site. Pride deserves its low score in my opinion. This movie is so contrived. It's as if the writers took straight from the playbook of sappy racism based films. The drug dealer storyline was stupid and cliche as well. By the way I'm black.

reply

How can it be "contrived" when it's a true story? lol

No, there is NO way this movie should have been rated any lower than a 6 or 7. I just saw it on TV again, and was reminded of how inspiring and well-done it is. Some of the acting is subpar, but in general it is a quality film, much more so than say a "Bruno" which is one of the worst pieces of garbage ever released. Yet, even that gets higher than this movie? Give me a break.

I love IMDb but I'm inclined to believe there are rating abusers on this site and the administrators need to find a way to weed them out and ban them.
