i really hated this "movie" and think it was terribly made. The kids were not even scary and it was just a dumb rip off of village of the damned and other zombie children movies. The acting sucked and I thought it would never end. All the movies were barely likeable, but this one is just awful.
Dark Ride has been the worst so far out of the 4 I've seen, Wicked Little Things was a little better, and Abandoned being a little better then that. Grave Dancers was significantly better then the other three.
i think everyone has been hating dark ride cuz they think that the movie is trying to be a edgy, thrilling horror movie. its not - the whole point of the movie is that its supposed to be funny, its PURPOSELY using dumb cliches to make fun of itsef and its genre. i thought it brilliantly done, it was funnier and had better scenes than either scary movie or scream. personal opinion.
my opinion is that the worst movie of horrorfest BY FAR was penny dreadful. that was the one that i was having trouble sitting through, and me and my friends were yelling at the screen "JUST KILL HER ALREADY! WE DONT CARE ANYMORE!" couldnt stand it at all. WLT wasnt a bad movie, it just was incredibly unoriginal and got boring. my favorite was the hamiltons!
Penny Dreadful was definetly the worst...I'd say this one is the best, but that's not saying much. Reincarnation has been done too many times and Gravedancers was just hilarious.
This movie gets an A for concept but a solid F for implementation. There is so much they could have done with the basic story, not even involving a larger budget, yet instead they made it is as formulaic as possible without even having creepy enough children to make up for it.
As a sort of followup to my previous comment, it occured to me to mention that people should check out semi-recent publications of the Dean Koontz novel The Funhouse just for his new afterword regarding the book and movie as a perfect example of the wasting of great concepts in the horror movie industry. (To summarize the story quick, Koontz was hired to write the novelization of the script, the book and movie were coming out simultaneously but the movie got pushed back. The book sold extremely well, I believe even made best seller lists, but upon final release of the movie, which should have boosted sales, sales dropped off completely due to the complete atrocity that was the movie.)
Anyway, it is a really interesting short read about horror movies in particular not making proper use of potentially amazing material, and ignoring potentially amazing plots and stories to fall back on the age old cliches of horror. Whatever people think of Koontz(and I know horror fans have very mixed feelings about him), he has had some really interesting afterwords on reprints of his novels that mostly cover horror movies(particularly as relates to his own experiences with studios dealing with his work).
Koontz would never have sat through this horribly bad movie, or that piece of junk Dark Ride or the awful Hamiltons. I still think it's just one of the most dumb, badly made ones I ever saw. Not even funny, it's that bad!
"Wicked Little Things" was by far the most awful of the fest, if not the most awful of the year and perhaps the last decade. It's that bad. I use the DVD disc as a frisbee now for my dog.
For me the worst so far has been "Unearthed". I couldn't even finish watching it. I watched "Dark Ride" because it amused me and I enjoyed most of "Graveyard Dancers" but the ending killed it. I really think it just depends on what kind of horror movies you like, of course.
