One of the worst films I've ever seen.

First of all, I could immediately tell it was written by white people, whose insight into race relations is fueled by their white guilt.

Secondly, the movie never takes off because the writers never spend any time developing the characters. Every single scene, every single sentence, is about race. Even "Crash" had characters and storylines that made us emotionally engaged in the film. This is nothing but an hour and a half of talking about racism. What the hell?

Perhaps examine your own racism?

What does pointing out white guilt have to do with racism?

This movie didnt seem like it was written by "white guilt" or whatever bs reason you have.
I thought it did an easy but intense job at showing REAL current problems.

Best Movie of 2008: The Dark Knight.
Worst Movie of 2008: Twilight.

White guilt has everything to do with racism as it is today.. A racism that is more subtle and hypocritical. People don't want to be perceived as racist and do all kind of things to be politically correct and polite. In the the public sphere and workplace, they talk about diversity and this and that, but back in their community, they don't really want to mix up and they don't really want to deal with it as long as they never have to have a bad conscience. However how can we really end racism if we don't bridge communities together and if we all live segregated with people of our own color?

White people want to be nice and because they are scared of their own internalized racism, that they may offend someone or say something stupid if they began to hang out with people of other ethnicity, they'd rather stay safe and hang with their own. I'm not speaking for all white people but for how it is where I live and I think in a lot of other places... They need to get over the white guilt thing and say stupid things if they have to in order to learn.

Your first point is weak to me and I think others address it better than I ever could. But...

I think your second point is VERY valid. The characters in the film are less characters than they are "Points Of View" (caps intended). It would've been nice if we'd seen more of SJP or MW's characters' personal lives. Then we might have gotten some better perspective about how the story's main conflict was affecting them.

Viva La BBM!

"vannamany94-1" made a very astute observation and maybe the most salient perspective presented in this discussion. And like "marbry8", I agree with your second point that most of the characters were far too simplistic for audiences to relate. It seems like this was a 90 minute "forum on race" using a dramatization to paint broad strokes when finer details were needed.

I would go that far but its pretty bad.
