I was going to agree with this too, they are black people with naturally, gold (light brown) or dark green eyes. It kinda bothers me that being black is defined as being 100% black, whatever that is. Which I guess means darker skin, curled hair and deep brown eyes, but in reality there are a lot of variants. Every once in a while, blacks are born completely albino or with blue eyes. It does happen!
That is like saying all white people are pale skinned, blonde hair and blue eyed. It's a little closed minded. And most people in the US aren't 100% anything, but a mix of things. Saying it is ok for white people to have a mix of background, but black people have to be 100% black, again not sure what that means because if you are in American, you will always be a mix of something, in order to be really black. It's just an odd thing to even talk about, kinda silly and not based on any factual information.
Now, if people are mad the girls don't resemble the characters in the books, that is done all the time in the media. Disney probably wanted girls who had a show before to do the movie, so people would have an interest watching it. Movies do this all the time with characters. I've seen book characters go from having black hair to being blonde or even two book characters being made into one movie character, do to lack of time in the movie, as opposed to books. If you are completely faithful to the book, then it would be six or more hours long and movie watchers would lose interest.
I get kinda bored when people play the race card with anything that has to do with African American culture.
