Much better than the original!

Mostly due to the lead, but yeah, I have seen both and this is so much better than the original.

If you disagree I will consider your opinion.

Here though is what I think they were going for in this version of Mrs. Baylock. Definitely more of the wolf in sheep's clothing thing. In the original we know Mrs. Babylock is creepy just by looking at her. If you pay attention something about her eyebrows and teeth also look sinister even though she is being nice. Let me ask a question that occurred to be for the people who had never seen the original and were not familiar with the story. When you first saw Mia Farrow as Mrs. Baylock did you think she was just a regular nanny and not a disciple of the devil? That maybe she looked even like someone that came to be a force against Damian. If you think about it someone that was not ever familiar with the story could have thought that right up until the point where she says " hello damian I am mrs. baylock and then don't be afraid I am here to protect you". We see her look and him and say he is beautiful and then when the mom walks away the way she at first looks at him is ambiguous like maybe its like or dislike. But when she smiles and introduces herself its obvious she is with him. But yeah Mrs. Baylock was not outwardly creepy. The first sign of her creepiness was probably after Kathy insisted that Damian was going with them to church. The look on her face was one of disgust. Interesting that in the remake they sort of flipped the things about Damian and Mrs. Baylock's appearance. In the original Damian looked outwardly normal and Mrs. Baylock looked creepy but in the remake Damian looks creepy and Mrs. Baylock looks sunny and friendly on the outside.

In the original, Billie Whitlaw's superb acting as Mrs. Baylock, especially her "mysterious" entrance after the first nanny's demise lets us know we are goign to be in for a hell of a ride. And she provides through out the movies alot of chills and creeps. Not Farrow.

there wasn't much they could do with Baylock in the remake. both hospital scenes, i mean, really which is more suspenseful....Lee Remick trying to pack her clothes and getting stuck in her nightgown as Baylock approaches or Julia Stiles laying there as the tube is pressed....

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

I think the casting was better in the original, which I prefer all in all. The only part of the remake that I found better was the beginning with the Pope being shown all of the prophecies (like 9/11 and the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake/tsunami) on a video presentation. That creepiness was obviously a luxury they didn't have in 1976 when the original was made.
