The remake was actually better than I thought. As we know, most, if not all, remakes are inferior to the original. So, too w/this. But it was ok. The original was a classic IMO. Just so many great scenes; The whole zoo thing. The photog losing his head. The cemetery scene. Great stuff. But what made the film for me was the acting. Gregory Peck is such a great actor. I love the scene with the burned priest. The way Peck questions him in that paced, halting way. And Lee Remick came across as someone you could feel sympathy for. Stiles just seemed cold. That zoo scene was so cool the way the animals 1st started getting agitated and how Remick looked confused and then shocked as all hell broke loose. And David Warner was great too. He seemed authentic, believable. The original is just another great movie from the 70's....Best decade in movie making history hands down!

I agree with each of your assessments save Jennings - while I would still give the point to 1976 and David Warner, I like David Thewlis.

I came here today really just to see if others agreed that Mia Farrow's Mrs. Baylock was genius - so sweet and kind. You can totally buy into intelligent people like the Thorns being blindsided by her. Ms. Farrow was really the saving grace of the remake.

Amen. While watching the remake, I almost had to turn it off, but I kept watching and regretted not having turned it off. Pointless *blankety blank* remake. And while I love Marco Beltrami's scores, I prefer Jerry Goldsmith's music.
