Absolutely horrible movie

I rented this a few days ago to watch it with my girlfriend. Let me tell you, I have quite a broad taste in movies and my girl really digs chick flicks, but this movie was so horrible for both of us we actually turned it off after 15 minutes...

Unless you're into vague, absurd, half-comic flicks, avoid this....

You are so right! I am watching it now....or, well, trying to watch it and it is so bad! I feel embarrassed for everyone in it. I am seriously starting to think that "Clueless" was a fluke, because every other movie Amy Heckerling has written/directed since has been pure *beep*

reply

I don't get why everyone thinks the movie was so awful, I thought it was funny

reply

Ever hear of 'European Vacation', 'Johnny Dangerously' and 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'? Three comedy CLASSICS!

reply

I agree. Just finished watching it, although it was hard to force myself NOT to switch it off.
What a mess of a film (IMO)

To fritzbatton, who defended Amy Heckerling with this comment:

-- Ever hear of 'European Vacation', 'Johnny Dangerously' and 'Fast Times at
-- Ridgemont High'? Three comedy CLASSICS!

which I think was a response to MovieLovr86's comment, you will notice upon re-reading MovieLovr86's post that they said

-- "written/directed since (Clueless) has been pure *beep*",

so I don't think anyone is denying Heckerling DID write/direct some great comedy classics, but everything after Clueless (including ICNBYW) has not lived up to her earlier work

Watch out for that first step, it's a doozy!

totally agree...and specially when relating to Demi/ashton couples....
Bullsh**

I totally agree that this is an awful movie, I felt it was very insulting to women as it's message is if you stay thin and live on rice cakes you can remain beautiful and get a toyboy! Let's face it how many women heading towards 50 are a size US 0!

reply

Wtf? Take care of yourself, age gracefully and people will still find you attractive? That's just a reality, not even that harsh...mere common sense.

I was so glad to see your comment. This is a terrible film. I was at the video store and desperate and decided to pick this up, what a mistake. First off the idea that Paul Rudd is 29 and Michelle Pfeiffer is 40 is laughable. What were they thinking? Secondly the lighting is atrocious and the storyline is trite and boring. Finally what is the deal with the soundtrack the idea that you can make a film better by stuffing it so full of 80's pop songs it will burst is just not the case. The music choices were inappropriate and over kill. Blah, Blah, Blah someone shoot me...

Thanks for that review of the first 15 minutes of the film, QuaintPaul. Looking forward to your review of the other 75 minutes.

Hey, I just realized, all of you, with the exception of elkhatib_nizar, only have a few posts a piece at IMDB.

Spam, anyone?

I agree completely. 15 minutes into the movie, I was considering leaving the movie theater. I can't remember the last time this happened. And this whole "mother nature" thing (the actress as well as the idea) is just ridiculous. I cringed every time she was on the screen.

Funny this movie didn't get theatrical release it went straight to DVD. It's actually one of the best movies I have seen in ages and people judging it on the first 15 minutes obviously aren't smart enough to appreciate it.

Terribly boring movie to me. I usually dig Michelle Pfeiffer but I'm now about 30 minutes into the film and I've started surfing the internet while the movie is running in the background on my notebook because I've completely lost interest.

You should have left, right then and there. And, you could have given an entire review based on those 15 minutes and it would have been good enough to get you credibility in this thread...

maybe give it more than 15 minutes and you'll realize its a great movie. its a comical satire that shows the small humors in life. oh and don't be embarrassed for the actors in this movie because I'm sure they got paid well for their work that sadly your not able to appreciate.

reply

This.

It's a satire of Hollywood, not a chick flick.
