Anyone agree? I must admit that I never liked Richard Gere until now. I was surprised by his performance on The Hoax, this prooves if he chooses good roles he can be an amazing actor. The part when he mimic Howard Hughes' voice was simpling stunning.
shareI am one who never cared for Richard Gere, though I have to disclaim that I have only seen a few of his movies in the distant past. I've seen American Gigolo, Office and a Gentleman, Days of Heaven, Pretty Woman, Sommersby, and maybe one or two more that I've forgotten. Based on those, I never thought he was much more than a pretty boy whose acting was mediocre.
But I must admit he genuinely surprised me in The Hoax. I never knew he was capable of this kind of acting. Excellent performance. I've seen the movie about 3 times and I'm still not tired of it.
I've been impressed with Gere since his electric, dangerous performance in "Looking for Mr Goodbar" over 30 years ago. He does villains quite nicely.

This and 'Unfaithful' are his best performances in my opinion.

More ecently, he's been great. Hachi, Brooklyn's finest, etc, he's picking his roles very well and he's making them his own.

He unbeepwithable in Internal Affairs!!! And excellent in Primal Fear too. I didn't like him in Hoax.

I thought he was really good in Hoax, I've been watching a fair few of his movies lately and this is one of the best along with the aforementioned Internal Affairs. He was great in American Gigolo too.

Richard Gere has an excellent body of work and this is another gem.
Mr. Gere is envied by jealous men,who wish they could be such a committed actor.
