Any chance that Joe votes republican?

With all that non-progressive thinking, refuse-to-change attitude?

That's such a stereotype of Republicans. If you look at history, the Republican party was started by progressives. It was founded by anti-slavery activists and other progressives, who wanted to see the United States spur itself into the modern age.

Today, it is quite clear that Republicans are willing to change. John McCain, for example, is not a typical Republican: he wishes to combat global warming, and takes a liberal view towards immigration. He condones waterboarding, and his son is fighting in Iraq.

You need to be more open-minded, before you begin to classify people in such a way.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA? Feeling targeted?

I like Joe but I can see why some people would prefer just to write as refusing to change. They can't understand why someone wouldn't want to just ditch their whole background and become a trendy lookalike of whatever fashion a particular stylist likes.

Joe wanted to change but he wanted them to recognize his character, his personality. I think a better makeover would have been one that allowed Joe to keep some of that Cowboy look rather than pretend he's just another city boy. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it wasn't him.

I actually respected him for sticking up himself. Why bother with makeovers that don't take into account some of an individuals' personality?

reply

But he didn't really "stick up for himself," since he did consent to having the makeover.

The point is he was acting moody and was exhibiting anti-social behaviour. It was rather self-centered of him, since his teammate was counting on him.

reply

I don't vote Republican.

reply

Condoning waterboarding is a good thing? Are you sure?

Because I think it's pretty terrible, but that's just me...to each their own.

reply

Of course waterboarding is bad, which is why John McCain is opposed to it. I don't really see the connection between torture and Republicans.

Then why did you write that McCain condones waterboarding? You should really check from the dictionary what "condone" means.

Oh my god, I made one mistake. Geeze, I'm sorry. Don't make a big deal out of it.

While using the typical Republican behaviour of trying to compare the modern Republican party to the original Republican party and claim credit for things that even todays Republicans have problem with?

Try again. Those "progressive" Republicans became modern Democrats.

You've completely missed BigLou's point. Political parties aren't necessarily vehicles for ideology. If you were to tell someone from 1860 that you identify as politically "conservative" or "liberal", they'd look at you like you were crazy.

The red-state/blue-state paradigm is just something pushed by modern cable TV networks so they can sell more Taco Bell.

Oh, 2011.
