Point of view from a Latino: NOBODY CARES!!!

This film is just another example of the non-Mexican, Miami/New York based Latin film making industry. A film about Hector Lavoe??? WHO IN THE HELL CARES?!?! Why in the hell would anyone outside of the Caribbean nations (excluding Mexico) be interested in this crap? I ask this question because in the weeks leading up to its release, this movie has been crammed down everyone's throat. Nobody cares because nobody outside of the Caribbean nations cares about Salsa (which by the way originated in Cuba) or view it as a serious or legit music genre. Salsa is a novelty, heck, it (along w/the other tropical latin music genres) only comprises about 10% of the LATIN music industry. People may like to dance Salsa every now and then, but they don't know who these singers are and THEY DON'T CARE! These singers do not garner much popularity for themselves outside of the Caribbean Latin community because they are really not that talented outside of being marginal singers at best. They are certainly not composers, most of their songs are rip offs or remakes of Spanish or Mexican composed pop or romantic songs. The fools who made this movie no doubt felt they could make an easy buck with this movie because past movies about famous late latin celebs such as Ritchie Valens, Selena & Frida Kahlo were huge successes. Well there's a big difference here, THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY HAD TALENT and were internationally known. So please, before another one of these pointless movies are made (Celia Cruz), remember, NOBODY CARES!!!

This thread is pretty offensive. The original poster is an idiot.

How dare you say that NO ONE CARES???

I loved Hector's music as a kid and I still love it now as an adult.

This salsa music NO CARES ABOUT is still played in households, clubs, get togethers to this day and it definitely is better than the garbage latino music that's out now.

You should really think before you speak MORON.

You think Richie Valens and Selena were better artists than Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades???

I'm sure you must be of Mexican descent to say that.

Yeah, you act like anyone wants to see another movie about how Mexicans are mistreated in the US all the time and about how Mexico has the most awkward looking people in the world and also they all live in East LA where they get no education but they really want to be educated, etc. The reason why you may not know Hector Lavoe is because, unlike the aforementioned "singers"(Like the great Selena, such great talent... I know that hurts by the way, you Mexicans live for Selena), did not sell out to the mainstream media. Hector Lavoe did not START salsa, but he lead the movement for almost 20 years, if you didn't know who he was it might be because you've been too busy listening to "cortaditas" or "el pasito duranguense" which have such great artistic value. I sense your frustration and I felt a little animosity towards the Puerto Rican people so let me tell you a little bit about Puerto Ricans. Unlike you, we do not bow down or defend the great interests in order to receive less than what we're worth. That's why we are not mediocre (like, and I'm sorry to mention this again, for example Mexican musicians, which are only heard in regional parts of Mexico by the way... excluding Vicente Fernandez, he's so great, no really I'm serious... the guy is just so... like I can't find the words to describe him, he's a joke). And to wrap it off I would also like to mention that, if you haven't noticed, in any country which is not underdeveloped (that automatically removes Mexico from the list, sorry) we do value real music which requires more than 2 notes to be played (I guess we just killed cortaditas off here, sorry again) and do consider it a serious and legit music genre, such as Salsa. I would like to invite you to visit your fellow neighbors to the south and bring this issue into the table, but please, please do it legally (that is my disclaimer, I don't want to be accused of condoning illegal immigration to other countries). Have a nice life. Ah y se me olvido decirte esto papi: Cagate en tu madre so pendejo. Gracias.

I’m Puerto Rican and I didn’t even know who Hector Lavoe was until I saw the movie and I liked the movie.

I did not know anything about Hector Lavoe until I was listening to Carlito's Way soundtrack. Glad that I found him. Superb salsa indeed.

you are a dick!!! For somebody who doesn't care you take alot of effort and time in writing your stupid little racist thoughts!!! And you know what the movie wasn't made for white or black people to approve. It was made for Salsa lovers, Latinos, and most of all those who admired Hector Lavoe. You should be ashamed. Not everyone in the world is listens to rock and roll, or whatever, theres an entire world out there, and you dont know *beep* about latin culture, so why did you even watch the movie!!!
