AKA 'Reincarnation'. Nice idea, but confusing

Supernatural story, directed by Takashi Shimizu (creator/original director of Ju-On/The Grudge). The basic idea is that a young actress wins a role in a horror film based on true events, the murders of 11 people many years before. The director takes her and the rest of the cast/crew to the now abandoned hotel where the murders took place. As the actress becomes troubled by apparitions of the victims, past events start to replay alongside the film crew's reproduction of the same scenes.

Someone else here called this 'Carnival of Souls meets The Shining' and that is a bang-on description. It's a really interesting idea, but it's very disjointed. The flitting between past and present gets confusing, and it's not helped by two of the main actresses looking so much alike, even down to the same hairstyle. The last 15 minutes is better, with some very effective images and scares, but not enough to save the rating... 5.5/10
